Talking of thinking a bit harder, Colin…

What does….."it's all your faults" mean?

Should we all stand in the corner at once or take it in turns over the next couple of days? wink

Bob. Having perused the videos, Ellie goes quite well, considering its not supposed to be a fast boat! however it appears to be either a bit nose heavy or wants better spray rails, or at least SOME spray rails if not fitted.

Sl-Mo 2 has the issue of the sponsons; the supporting tubes are in the water and the drag is obviously substantial. It does not look like to me that the sponsons are required?? unless of course it is just not going fast enough yet. Sponson supports of the "bent " variety…flat ones mounted on the hull top and bending down to attach to the top of the floats would do.. OR even better, make the floats out of blue foam. I would simply take them off for a test.

Slo-mo looks great though, and love the steering driver, very effective! Who`s that saying slo-mo is aptly named??? did you clip his ear?? Ashley

Ashley, I think Ellie is a bit overpowered, she should plod along at a displacement-type of speed instead of the (semi-)planing speeds she is capable of reaching now.

That would negate the need for spray rails, or at least reduce it to only needing very small spray deflectors at the bow.

I also think Slo-mo should go about without the sponsons, or have waay more power, or both laugh

The steering driver, and tail fin, are indeed nice touches.

When we built Ellie, the brushless motor option was a mere pipe dream!

But we did mention it would be nice to have a Wolf in Sheep's clothing!

                          Now we've got one!

We can creep round with rigorous mortis or charge about like a wild thing…..perfect situation

It's not like you to ask us to slow down!

Ah, Bob… Now we are talking!

Ellie was originally designed for "recreational speeds" aka plodding along with a happy mom and kids sunbathing on the deck, and dad nipping (non alcoholic of course…) cocktails behind the wheel. So unless you take measures – such as the mentioned spray rails – the boat will not quite like higher speeds. You can see that in your bow wave, and the fact that your deck got so wet.

                            Soooo…..

Either adjust your engine to the design of the boat, or make it a Wolf in Sheeps clothing and add spray rails so mom and kids stay dry on Dad's Mad Dashes!

I must confes rather seeing spray rails added than a tame motor, indeed

                              Hi Diede

Fancy you knowing all these deliberately misleading old English sayings?

"A Wolf in Sheeps clothing"……. "Gobsmacked"……. "A Buttie short of a picnic!" and many others

Why don't you tell us about yourself?….Your boats etc

We are a nosie lot at times!

                                Hi Bob,

I don't know many of the old English sayings, but the Wolf in Sheeps clothing is the same as we have here in Holland…

I could tell something about myself, and my boats, but that would only add extra chaos to this thread so I won't do it (here) lest Colin gets upset again.wink

There are already two boats of mine on this forum: My pocket-sized Tamar-class EeZeBilt 50+, and the EeZeBilt 50+ Sea Princess I am currently building. I will add more in the future, probably smiley

At the moment I`m having another go at installing two motors in SloMo

But!…..Still the 2nd motor will not run!

Going to do some swapping about now, to eliminate the ESC possible problem….etc

Ellie and SloMo sail very nicely, as designed, but holes are required in formers to allow surplus water to be easily extracted from sump area

                                      Tea Lady to apprentice engineer

Drain holes were deemed as not required as there shouldn't be any water in the boat.

Chief Engineer suggests that you do one of the following:

1/ To prevent water ingress by fitting glass in all of the windows and stop up any holes.

2/ To prevent splashing by replacing high speed engine with design approved unit

3/ To eliminate excessive splash by relinquishing control to a more experienced operator.

Tea Lady says just turn it upside down.

                                      wink

                                        Thank you, Tea Lady

Just thought of a method of making the holes in the bulk heads!

A really brill idea…..Worthy of a Eureka Moment entry!

A length of 3mm wire with a pointed end and the last inch, bent through 90 degrees

Then heat up the bent end and burn a hole through the bulkhead!

                                        Problem solved!

I don't know how I do it for the money?

It wasn`t an oversight at all!………The sections with a leak source……..Fill up first!…….Brilliant!

Yep!…..Sure enough……Front section full of water…..So there`s no need to blame the propshaft is there?

So I did……Sure enough!….There was a crack under the combing!…..Just where the spray hammers on the hull!

This may be why I suggested spray rails to keep the spray off the deck. However cracks are a good source of leaking…

Now and again if it is easy I put some raised ribs in on the bottom of the boat to contain any water that comes up the propshaft so it does not slop or run everywhere. not many of my boats leak thro the propshaft, but the Nelson is a bit bad despite the usual nylon washers and tight adjustment, may be because the entire shaft run is below the waterline. All the inside was painted with resin so it is not an issue in any case.

Once I am finished with my Triton build Ellie hull is next. I will probably do sea spray instead of Ellie, but the hull parts of this thread will be of great help.

Dave, if you pop by, I have sent a PM regarding your build of sea spray. I will start a new build thread once I am ready.
