Dave, you paint a vivid picture of home life in the forties!

We used to wear "Sparking Clogs" as a lad and do our sums on slates!

We used to walk on the toe caps like a Ballet Dancer!………………Watch it you lot!

Dad was a rat catcher at Belle Vue in his spare time and kept Ferrets!

He enjoyed eating hens feet, tripe, trotters and cow heels!

We all carried our gas masks and lived in the Air Raid shelters at night

The sound of the planes, Ack Ack guns, search lights and bombsexploding was a haunting sound

For some reason, we call them the "Good old days"

      Bob!

A vivid picture of the forties? Not really, old dear; you've read far more than I wrote, Bob.
I wasn't around until a year or so into the fiftes and only dimly aware of my surroundings then. I had some Scholl's clogs in the seventies (trendy but with rubber-faced soles rather than hobnails); I don't think I've ever seen a live ferret and I've never owned nor worn a flat cap or a gas mask. As for hen's feet and cow heels, well ………. I guess The North must start somewhere between me and thee, m'duck!

Ah, the illusions of grandeur that living up north provide you with !

I dont have to overstate my case, and of course Colin lives even further south, and he has his finger on the "delete northern post" key as I type…

I saw a program and the name Hadrian was mentioned, Its a shame he didn`t build his edifice a bit further down.

Ashley (superior by location) (and ignoring Colin`s throwaway remark)

Now, now, gents (or so I might hope)… Ruining a previously perfectly interesting and amusing thread with some ordinary mud-fights? That's not very genteel…! Tssk.

Please continue building outrageous and extraordinary variations on Ellie, maybe a 1/2 size version would be a nice little project for Ashley too? I think he will still have ample space inside for a big bad brushless monster motor to send his cruiser skimming across the pool? That'd be fun, I would almost have tried it, were it not that I currently already have some 4-8 projects on hand (depending how to define "project"… Currently two active builds).

            But PLEASE.., stop the squabbling..?

Don't worry as we aren't squabbling…… this is just time wasting banter between some very good friends who share the same oblique sense of humour.

Would that be north islanders or south islanders (or those from the middle, like me)?

Still smiling at the thought of Ashley trying to obtain sheets of hardboard eighteen feet long…………….

Diede – don't even try to figure out the persiflage (go Copy and Paste it, lesser mortals); most of the time it makes no sense to us either but it's good fun while the glue or paint dries.

Ref Ellie – do you suppose that Bobbable has given up on his curious hybrid or just put it aside for the time being? (Discuss.)

                      Hello Boys

Diede……We are all the best of friends and it's quite common for us to break out into mad session of nonesense, especially when our projects trigger something off…..as we all seem to have short fuses!……Not mentioning any names!

Dave…..The curious hybrid is progressing well, but when the thread suffers from no replies, I get slightly discouraged, assuming that nobody is interested!……Not to mention, the other project in progress……Brutus

That would be along the lines of "Know All 'ere! The only peasants round 'ere is youse"? (Grade 4 – Ordinary Level GCE Latin; O&C Joint Board – 1968). There are still some neurons in there dedicated to this?? Oyveh.

Still its nice to see that you benefited from at least a partial classical education but I bet your neuron cant translate Minor, et mortalem, in vobis.

Latin as a school subject was long dead by the time I did O levels.

It looks very much like the motto from a coat of arms i.e. fancy words which together signify nothing. We had to do Latin for the first three years at senior school (a minor public school) so I recalculate that my exams were in 1967.

North, south, doesn't matter for me, islanders you all are! (and me too, being originally from Texel…)

The Slo-mo is coming along nicely! Very curious as to how it will perform (and if it needs BL motors in the end, proving Ashley right or not)

I know it will be an uphill battle, but it should guarantee a stonkin' performance

Bob, you may indeed get a stonking straight line performance from brushless motors but it could be interesting to see what happens when you try to change direction!

Won't it be great fun, exploring the sailing characteristics?…..Of a virtual rocket ship!

I would obviously slow down for a maneuver, then gradually speed up?

I may fit a pair od stabilisers below somewhere

Sorry but there's some maths here.

To get 500 Watts from one of those motors it will have to run on15V at 34 Amps (Watts = Volts x Amps). Even if you could select the perfect prop those figures are unlikely to be achieved. It would also mean that a 4S 50C 5000mAH LiPo battery (£67 each) will run it for approx 8 minutes. SloMo has two of everything BUT it is a huge, draggy model. I doubt that even 1000W (or about 1.5HP) would push it up onto the plane. The 900 motors you had in it were just as powerful as these brushless ones – albeit heavier. You need to look for at least 5HP I reckon.

A single motor like this one with ESC would probably be OK for your bitsa boat. As for a twin installation, I predict a riot…………………
