        Many thanks, Dave

        The BB700 look classy motors

Selecting a motor for a new model is like walking through a minefield!

At the moment, I'll finish structure first to see how it looks, before spending a small fortune on exotic gear

Many thanks for your help over the last few months and wish you a merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year

          Dear Ken

Thank you for your very kind donation but the system seems to have swallowed your email address so I cant forward the drawings to you.

Could you please pm or email me at [email protected] and let me know what your email address is.

          All the best

You're welcome Bob. I paid about £30 for my motors. I certain'y wouldn't pay £75- they must have gone up a lot but there are various incarnations of the Graupner 700 as Dave says.

I was frightened stiff about Lipos when I started using them but with the kind help of my local model shop owner (yes, we still have one) who talked me through it, I now find them easier to manage than Nimh batteries. You just have to follow the rules and think about what you are doing. They would certainly give you more 'oomph' than Nimh. I always charge mine in a fireproof bag and transport them in it too.

But I do agree, the costs can run away with you in the quest for performance!

Thoroughly enjoyed the Ellie build this year and looking forward to more of the same next year- much better than the telly!! Can't wait to see Brutus taking shape.

All the best and happy Christmas.

              More work in progress

Top deck ready for veneering or riveted plates?

The veneering won`t go round the bend, so it`s the riveted plate option

Can still veneer the hull sides though

Can't you cut the veneer around the curve as it would be a shame to loose the varnish on that smashing droop nose.

That's what I thought too, Ashley

The veneer is only 0,010" thick and refuses to co-operate!

So I have covered the deck with plates and rivets….Looks lovely….Picture coming shortly

                      Work in progress

Covered the deck with riveted plates plus a coat of Santa Clause……..which is always`s a good crowd pleaser!

Made a start on the diagonal planking layout

What do you think of the show so far, chaps

Planking the hull sides is very relaxing

Of course, I can`t wait to slap the varnish on!

Plus a few chrome fittings………That`ll be nice

Head Office is rather quiet these days?

                            Bob

Andy……..The rivets are very easy to do………I use an impact centre punch from underneath

The veneering look lovely and I am sure that it will look superb with 20 coats of varnish.

Don't worry about the lack of input as being quiet simply means that there isn't much to say.

Progress on the Sea Spray version has stalled while I await some electronic bits and pieces. I shall probably swap the Speed 600 ECO motors (aka hen's teeth) and brass props which I have fitted for a couple of MFA 540/1 motors – which are generally available – and a pair of Robbe 3-blade 35mm plastic props.

Happy New Year to all and sundry.

I would like to know why you have changed the motors and props, on your Seaspray, please?

                                  I'm guessing the "Hen's teeth " haven't turned up?

No. It's because I will almost certainly end up not keeping the model and I don't want to lose two highly-prized and useful Speed 600 motors and two expensive brass propellers. It will also give me an opportunity to see how the model performs on 'lesser' motors and smaller props.
I obtained three 600 ECO motors through a trade contact much earlier on when you were debating what type to fit into your model.

Bob. Coming together now. Like the veneer, and the red deck suits the top, which is now looking to be a good fit (rather than too big)

Are you happy with the very small fin size..know what I mean ?? It is barely sticking above the pilot. Could it do with being a bit bigger?

The prototype sailed last summer but the current version hasn't as its just to cold on the canal so all sailing is off until the weather cheers up. Maybe at Ellesmere Port in March but no promises.

Bob, not pulling leg. I would make it a bit larger myself, however of course I do not have the boat "in the flesh" in front of me to judge this by, only your photo.

I am just giving a point of view, if you would like to consider it. Perhaps a card fin of larger dimensions could be propped up against the fin to see what you think?

As I have said before it is your boat and I would not want to influence you unduly. yes

We can reconsider it again shortly, when it`s finally in position and painted the correct colour
