      Ashley

Using a mobile phone hadn't occurred to me.

After all I was inside a large steel and concrete structure and bathed in all manner of different digital radio signals so reception would have been perfect.

I guess we are just techno dunces up here int'north.

The real problem Ashley…..Is that we haven`t swopped phone numbers!

Paul should have called at the club stand and just waited for ten minutes?

The latest skin photos look great and the below chine curve is spot on, How easy was it to bend?

Glued the first bottom skin in place with all manner of stuff. Notice how useful the clamp holes are?

The tip was a struggle and had to resort to the heavy stuff!

              Taking shape now?

Paul…..Have we still got deck sheer?

Can the deck overhang the hull sides?

                Hi Bob

The deck does oversail and there is a sheer

                section detail.jpg

Do you still have the deck and coaming details or do you need a fresh set.

                The build is looking good.

Is green evostick the right glue to use on this build as I thought the blue container held the waterproof glue?

Don't need a deck drawing, I'll simply draw round the hull?

Your cross section doesn't show any overhang?

The ply was easy to bend……The problem is…..Keeping it bent!……lol

The glue is normal PVA and I've always used it, with no problems

And don't forget…………..United are playing Chelsae tonight!

                      Morning Bob

Sorry I misunderstood your question about an overhanging deck but as can be seen in the section the vertical edge of the hull is flush with the finished edge of the deck.

                        Hello Paul

Feel sure the deck should have a little overhang? They did at Haydock….as a capping strip and would look nice

John……I suppose I should be using waterproof glue,

Paul…….Make a note on the plans!

So, the pair of you.. have you swapped mob phone numbers yet???

Bob, with a bit of deck overhang would this not be a bit end-grainy and a better look achieved by an ACTUAL capping strip?? Although I can see where you are coming from by using the deck and not having to stick something else on (very canny).

I only use cheap PVA, or epoxy normally, or latterly Gorilla glue for foam. Not had a delamination problem yet! (even on the sub) but each to their own. I varnish/seal inside so the PVA use is not an issue if water enters the boat/whatever. AND others dont of course. Are you sealing the inside on this one?

                            Hello Ashley

A plywood overhang would be very grainy, especially with my type of cheapo ply, But it's a chance not to be missed, as it would be very strong. Adding a thin rubbing strip would be messy and would need the bending process again

I will be adding a few coats of varnish to seal the joints and the dodgey glue should be ok

This idea is worth a mention………..Leverages and all that stuff

A clamp was required to secure the tip of the skin

After trying all sorts of nonesense, this Eureka Moment emerged!

                              skin nipper.jpg

It may look crude, but it did the trick!

After applying the waterproof PVA glue to the joint…..

I clamped a lever at the bottom edge of the hull

Attached a cord to the other end of the lever and loosely secured it to a clamp on the bench

A local block of wood was placed exactly where needed and pressure was applied, by pushing the top of the lever

When satisfied with the setup, the cord was finally secured to the anchor point

                              Problem neatly solved

Hull carcass finished, five weeks of fun………Sort of!

The keel is a little proud, at the front, shall we plane it down to the hull?

                                hull view.jpg

What`s it like inside?…..I can hear you ask……..

                                hull interior.jpg

The next step is to remove the Former extensions, level up the top edge for the deck seating, clean up the inside, add more glue round the joints and apply a few coats of varnish

Not forgetting of course to draw round the periphery for the deck top

                                  Hi Bob,

I've used a similar leverage device for that same area when planking – mine was an aluminium tube, and yes it ended up with a permanant slight curve.

That hull looks very strong too – good job.

The hull looks superb and if there is a little tidying up to do at the bow a light plane or sanding would be an ideal solution but could you take some before and after photos to show the readers exactly what is involved.

Regarding varnishing / sealing the internal surface experienced modellers know that this is simply good practise but it might be worth a more in depth explanation with some photos for the benefit of those readers who might be wondering why sealing is necessary.

I am not sure that an overhanging deck is a good idea not simply because of the open grain end looking untidy but more as a easily replaceable part should it become damaged as if, like me you hit the bank a little to hard it is far easier to replace a separate rubbing strake than repair a split deck.

As you have surmised I had intended a separate rubbing strake of either thin hardwood or rubber strip. But I can appreciate your point about trying to avoid more bending and would simply say that this part of the construction is down to personal choice.

Have you decided upon a colour scheme yet?

A stand for a model boat is like a picture frame for a painting?

                                                      It just looks right
