Made a start on the rivetted card hull plating and a lick of paint. I specially enjoy painting over rivetted hulls, the effect is instantaneously pleasing!

The complex curves at the rear are not all that severe afterall….So it`s full steam ahead now

        Good morning Bob ,

Rivet detail is making a bland hull come alive what is the thickess of card ..?…..

also what is it stuck on with..?… i have used double sided tape on one model of mine …

once paint treated grey spray cans no problemes ……..Larry…

          Thank you, Larry

The card is about 0.015" thick and glued with PVA, but the shiney hull needs to be abraided with rough sand paper first. The PVA seems to soften the card and make it quite flexible too.

Only going down to the waterline with the card at the moment

I'm sure I've seen this info on one of your other threads Bob but, what do you use to create the rivets on the card ? A pin wheel springs to mind but not quite sure !

              Hello Phil

You are quite right, all my paddlers have the rivetted card feature and I use a mechanical spring loaded centre punch. The type that can be adjusted for various impact strengths

Unfortuneately, each rivet is punched the hard way! …….ie…….One at a time!

I always use the same piece of spongy plywood as a workrest too

                Hi Bob,

two more simple questions, the card referred to, is that paper card or is it plasticard, and where did you get an adjustable spring loaded punch? I can only find ones of a fixed tension so far.

                Kim.

                  Hello Kim

I use artist`s parchment paper, with the smooth side on the outside, for large boats, I use 0.015" For Glasgow, I`m using 0.010"

You need to find an engineering stockist for the punch, but I`m sure you`ll find one on the net somewhere

That looks like an "Eclipse" centre punch, as stated easy to find on the net.

Nearly finished the hull plating now

The tricky part will be painting a nice waterline over the plates and rivets!

                      hull plating.jpg

I think the plating has improved the hull`s appearance and given it the olde worlde look?

                        Hello, what`s this then?

Work in progress, but displayed rather dramatically…..As a bit of fun

Enjoyed the exercise and should be the start of things to come?

Not part of the kit, but I`ve fitted a pair of bilge keels to dampen out any wobbliness and instability and provide something level to stand on!

                                  We`re getting there at last!

                                  The Eureka Moment paper waterline!

It was so easy applying it……..With plenty of time to juggle it about in 12" lengths before the PVA took hold…….The finished effect is very satifying

I suppose several coats of varnish will tone it down?
