Hi everyone. Fantastic forum!. Im new to the forum, and fairly new to the world of model boats. I have previously owned and built model boat kits from the main manufacturers, and have completed the models to reasonable standards! However, I want to take my modelling skills to the next level, and would like some advice on how to proffesionally paint a new project that I have. I am about to restore a model of the Model Slipway Maggie M. Any of you who are aware of this vessel will know that the hull has a fine pinstripe around the hull. Most modellers would replicate this line with a simple self adhesive coachline decal such a you would apply to a vehicle. However, i wish to paint this line on the hull. How would you go about doing this?. I have on previous models masked off areas that are seperate colours e.g. above and below the waterline, but always end up with a 'stepped' effect where the two colours meet. How can I avoid this happening and get a finish where the paint is nice and level? Is rubbing down after the paint is hard the key? Love to hear your thoughts. Chris

            Excellent Paul, thanks!

Next question, Id like to remove the old paint from the hull effectively. I dont mind using a bit of elbow grease, but the hull has got rubbing strakes moulded in around the stern area ( fibreglass hull) and I dont want to damage their profile. Is there a chemical I can use on the hull to remove the paint? Or am I asking for trouble?

              Hello Chris

Jane was getting worried about me using chemical paint strippers so she searched out a waterbased stripper.

              stripper

This is very good at removing old paint and varnish, its safe to use and safe for the planet.
