Just to let any STAR yacht fans know that I have just started a Birkenhead Star Yachts Appreciation Society website and hope to provide as much Star information to enthusiasts as I can get hold of. I am slowly building the site up and would ask you if you were able to provide any material towards the project such as good quality images of catalogues, or the catalogues themselves any literature to do with Star yachts, photos of the older / rarer models. I hope at sometime in the future to provide the harder to get items, bow names, logos and sail emblems when time permits as this is a hobby not a business venture. I welcome any contribution from yourselves and hope to keep the Star yacht story going for many years to come.

      Best wishes, Graham Hunt

When I was 10 and on holiday in Norfolk I bought an Endeavor IV with all my birthday money. My brother ran down Sherinhgam high st with it, tripped up and the bow took the full brunt of the impact. It was a tough thing and only suffered cosmetic damage! It came on a lot of seaside holidays and I once even raced it at Southwold Model Yacht Regattas.

I must sail It at Bushey Park one day when there is no risk of a weed stranding!

Hi Noel, thanks for your memories. Next year on Sunday 30th June is National Star Yacht Day were all Star yacht owners are invited to sail their yachts in homage to the day the Star Yacht works closed its doors. It will also be 100 years from when Franz-Marie Denye started the yacht making in Watson Street, 4 years before the Marion Street factory opened.

But where will that "sail-in" be?

Hi Martin, thank you for your post,

We are asking Star yacht owners wherever they live to go down to their local boating lake or pond and sail their yacht, take a picture and send it in. Also if people want to organise an event local to them, I am asking them to write in to me and I will advertise it online.

                More at;

Ah, I see. That's a nice idea. Alas, I left a very early (green and cream, scow-like) at my last address when we moved and I've never been able to find one since, but I had a foot long bright red one as a kid which always sailed superbly as I believe they all did.

I'm a big fan of free sailing.

                  Cheers,

                  Martin

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply and this is what the BSYAS is all about, bringing back the memories of owning or sailing a Star yacht. Keep looking, I hope you find one and rekindle the fun that you had. Best wishes, Graham.

Graham, I have a handle on a couple at present. Just trying to persuade the owner that I can give em a better home.

One fancy larger one and one just like I had a a kid. I wonder what that flat bottomed boxy one was that I left behind. It had Star type rigging and fixings and a flat metal keel, but was only about 9" long.

                      Cheers,

                      Martin

The one that springs to mind is a DB/2 Dutch Barge which was 9" long and flat bottomed but no metal keel. Came in red, blue, green and yellow colours. Tried to put photo up but can't.

That sounds familiar, but I'm sure it had a small keel.

I got the one like I had as a kid. Red with a green line round the deck. Excellent transfer on deck, too. Mine always sailed so well. I wonder why?
