Well, yes, Yesterday I tried to spray paint the bottom of my hull, not impressed, lots of spots kept jumping out all over it, and well thats it really, so I binned that idea.

next day, I buy myself some more paint, and hand paint it on,  but NO, to thick, and doesn’t want to brush, so thin it out, but lifts off the the thick stuff… now not very happy. tries other pot, by now the damage has been done what a bag of……….

As Corporal Jones used to say “don’t panic” the first thing to do is clean off all the old paint before any serious damage is done and get back down to the bare hull then give it a good wash to remove any grease or dirt.

Next ask yourself some basic questions such as is the paint compatible with the hull material, does it require a specific base / primer or does the hull have to be prepared in a special way.

Then think about the conditions in which you are working, is it windy, dusty, damp or humid?

When everything is alright then try again.

          Good luck

Paint spots from spray tins are often caused by poor quality paint or nozzle, not shaking the paint for long enogh, or using a tin that has been used before leaving a slightly blocked nozzle where the paint does not flow freely..

CP. what boat is this ?? black one?? if it is, it  needs a good rub down with 600 or more wet`n`dry paper (wet) and then a clean with  meths or summat. You should not have any probs after that. c u Sunday?    Ash

NB Humbrol enamel can be flatted with  w`n`d  and shone up after with “T” cut, as long as the paint has been left a week or so to harden.

Actually a bit of paint stripper might be needed if you have some paint on it already thinking about it. Followed by wet`n`dry, then meths and finally spray undercoat and same manufacturers top coat. Ash    (CP`s black hull is a fibreglass flattie sort of fast speedboat )

Just go easy on the stripper, washing off as soon as the paint lifts, in order not to damage the gel coat.

Woah for goodness sake DONT use paint stripper ……WHY simple if it is not a wooden hull it will attack it.Grp will adsorb it and it will attack the gell coat, plastic etc you will end up with a palstic blob.

GRP can be stripped with stripper BUT ONLY with one that is designed for grp

Plastic and abs can be stripped with Modlestrip

Wood can be stripped with no problems with stripper of any variety
