Clearly I wasn't looking in those places, but I did note this 'Chinglish' comment on both of your links:

Please buyers know the professional knowledge of this module before buying

No disrespect intended to you, Bryan or anyone else reading this but my point is that 'safe charging' doesn't necessarily require add-ons like these. LiPos are scary enough already for the uninformed – and there's no reason why they should be.

        Greetings all

I have charged the lipo battery no problem, have installed it In the boat . , runs perfectly, cell meter shows 8.88 v, have run motor flat out for around 30 mins, cannot get to pond until weekend, how can I get the voltage down to storage value or is it alright until weekend, excuse my ignorance, but I’m getting there.

        regards

        Bryan

8.88v sounds like a strange value. For a 2S LiPo it's above a full-charge (which would be around 8.2-8.4) while for a 3S pack it's below 3v/cell, which is terminal. Are you sure you've plugged in the voltmeter correctly? Typically it will first show the cells detected e.g. "3S"; then "ALL" followed by the total pack voltage; then it cycles through the cells in turn, indicating the voltage of each. "8.88" sounds like the LCD display you'd get momentarily when the thing is first connected. If it sticks on that then odds are you've got a faulty voltage checker. Do make sure that the black wire of the balance lead is connected right at the end of the row of pins to the last one, which is usually marked with a – sign.

That aside, you only need to worry about storage voltage when you put the pack away for the winter. A couple of days is nothing significant.

Thanks for your reply, I will recheck it tomorrow, I may have plugged in the voltmeter incorrectly ,I will reread the instructions that came with it.

            Regards

I had a 1s show 8.88v, it had been over discharged and it fooled the checker, I think I’d put the battery back on charge, it won’t matter leaving it on full charge for a few days. The charging read out will give you an idea of how much juice it used.

After retesting my lipo battery the voltage per cell is 3.979 volts. 73% fully charged, 7.95 total voltage. At the moment

If the aforementioned is correct this Lipo battery stuff is a piece of cake, so far it hasn’t exploded or burst into flames, I do keep it in a flame proof bag

The only question is how do I discharge it to a storage voltage apart from running the boat in the pond, I have also bought an alarm to show when the voltage is low, haven’t a clue how wire it up

                  regards

If you are using the IMAX B6 there is a LIPO discharging mode mentioned in the manual. This is intended to reduce the charge to storage level

They usually connect to the balance lead, exactly like a voltage checker. I keep mine in a flameproof bag but I'm not convinced it's vital. I just feel a little happier about them!
