Just a quick post to intro my self I used to do a lot of boat building in my early teens. (too many years ago to count now) and got back into this by accident my daughter wanted something to sail and because I can make planes and cars she assumed i could make a boat so I tried.

Not exactly scale and sits a little low in the water but it entertains and plenty of oh ah as she switches the lights on. just wish I’d found this forum before I started so many things I had to find out the hard way

OOh did I hear a bosuns whistle lol cheers Bob now I need to find something for the grandkids when they come down in Aug maybe a trad built barrel back launch like we used to have on the thames in the 70’s any one know of some plans around 24 to 36″ would be good but what would a pair of 500 class motors push on a 6cell 3300 nihm pack. doesn’t need to be too quick local ponds quite small but deep ish about 4′ if it had enough power we have the tone in taunton thats not to fast in places

              Hello Phil

Can`t understand why you are asking this question really?……………….Haven`t you seen Paul`s Barrel Back?…………………it`s being posted continously, over the last few months!

I believe he has plans available

                Hello Phil

I do have a set of plans on CAD for the barrel back, at the moment they are scaled for a model of 1.5m in length.
If you have access to CAD I could email you a copy so that you can play with it yourself, if you don’t have CAD I then due to recent illness I wouldn’t be able to produces a scaled down set for a while.
However once produced I could email them to you in PDF format for easy printing.

Phil. Welcome as well. I believe that the MB plans service has a boat that may be what you want, there was a maritime model international special a few months ago with loads of plans in. As Paul has his barrel-back on cad, I dare say he could downsize it to accept something less that the V8 he needs/wants to fit for truly spectacular performance, in the motor department. As the owner of a SMALL BOY, I favour something more….robust and more amenable to repair that a beautifully varnished Mahogany hull !   ………………………………….see advert flashing in an annoying fashion to the right here.>>>

Thanks for all this lads I hadn’t seen the build thread on paul’s launch yet but will check it out later when time permits. Paul I’ve PM’d you with my email if you’d be so good as to send the file I’d be grateful. given that I have these motors available what sort of size/weight would I be looking at to get a reasonable performance nothing near light speed just scale speeds is what I’m looking for would gearing be an idea. honestly I’m a bit at sea here as despite building back in the 70’s I’ve little idea what the power to weight req are. I’ve had a troll through the MB plans sect and hell there’s some choice good job I’ve got a bit of time
