I have fitted the hull panels (and due to bodged frame lining up) they have some small gaps at the joins.

How to seal off the hull and provide a smooth surface for painting? Forum suggestions are epoxy, thinned wood filler or fibre glass resin?

      Any recommendations please….

          Hello Brian

Use P38 Filler from Halfords……Perfect for this job!

Thanks Bob, is this just for the gaps, or can it be used to cover the whole hull? Do I need to cover the ply hull panels, or will a primer and several coats of paint do the job?

Thanks Paul, excellent info, but will I ever have the patience to follow that process…. I'll just have to try

                Cheers, B

                  Hello Brian

                  Glad you liked it.

Following the process is self fulfilling as the more you do …the better the finish.

                  Paul

                    Hello Brian,

Had look at your build problem ,

Is to late to go back to bulk head line up..?.. and is the deck fixed down …?…

laying down keel and frames have let you down ,

if the deck as not been fixed you could try and ease of hull ply and try insert shims or lay second bulk head , the build is quite fair , so if you use the filler method go easy with the sander , you might make your ply skin a little thin, i allways give my hull inside a coat of F/G resin, makes for a strong hull, hope this helps cheers Larry..

Thanks Larry, as this is my "rough" prototype to work out these problems, I'm not going to go back that far. I ahve used wood filler ( which I had in the shed) and filled gaps and built up some depressions.

I then sanded the hull and applied a primer, anded and primed again, then I have applied 3 coats of gloss type paint.

I tried the hull in a wheelbarrow full of water and it stayed dry inside for the 30 mins it was in there.
