Sorry – a  dumb question from a real beginner.  Just  built a wooden speedboat using cyano – I will need to glassfibre it to stop it falling apart..I already have the glass cloth . The kit instructions refer to  K&B,Hobbypoxy or Sig resins, catalysed with MEKP…. but I have heard it is easier (and just as effective) to coat the fibreglass with epoxy such as NHP epoxy finishing resin…..
Any ideas or suggestions, please?  Would either work and is there anything to choose between them?
      Thanks

If you already have the cloth it is quite possible that it will be intended for use with polyester resin. Using epoxy may case problems – something to do with the coating on the cloth I think.

You say you have glass cloth – do you mean tissue, as that is the usual covering for the exterior? Some people also coat the interior with resin at least while Glynn Guest on this Forim prefers to leave the inside untreated to let the wood breathe if moisture does penetrate.

Fastglas resin available from places like Halfords in the UK is a quick setting polyester resin and you can get matching tissue as well.

Once it’s on and set it’s not easy to get off so you need to get it right first time! Neil Howard Pritchard on this Forum should also be a ble to give you some useful tips.

Not at all – thanks for getting in touch…  No rush, the speed with which the boat is progressing is more or less equivalent to archaelogical timeframes, anyway…
Enjoy Lyme Regis – I have forgotten what that beach is famous for -is it trilobites…?
