Hello there Iam looking for a bit of advice regarding model selection.Iam looking to build a model from a plan for my son, and Iam quite keen on the Goblin free plan in the 2009 issue. However due to the higher prices of radio gear here in New Zealand I was wondrering weather a free sailng version would be a better option would this be possible and if so what changes would need to be made to the rudder etc would a fixed rudder be the way to go? thanks in advance

          Hello Paul

For a free sailing boat, you will need a pond with access all round……………or a rowing boat!

The rudder would need a simple method of retaining a fixed set position and the motor could be fitted with a mechanical speed controller for more flexibility.

Have a look in the toyshops for further ideas?

          All the best

Paul. Splash out on a simple 2 channel set. Your sailing will be much more rewarding, unless as Bob says you have access to a pond with all round access. Once you have the set, it can be used on all your other models, that is, the ones you will build after the first one. I have about 15 boats and…things, all on 2 channels.Works for me. Ashley

Thanks to you all for the advice I think perhaps a simple two channel set would be the best option regards Paul
