      Captain Bob

To say that I am pleased with the performance and the way that Brutus sits in the water would be an understatement, the model is performing exactly as designed and is slicing through the water better than expected.

It would be easy for me to be smug with the success but without your excellent build the model simply wouldn't have worked and would be nothing more than an expensive ugly duckling. All the way through the build you have faithfully followed the drawings without questioning the weird design and ignoring the Poo Poos you have built a far better model than I ever could.

Designing an efficient hull is fairly easy but building it correctly so that it produces such a superb curl on the bow wave is a real skill.

Shop floor to the Chief Designer, Paul Thomason

Following your instructions was all part of the game and was great fun and the cause of much merriment and friendly banter throughout the build

We`ve had our ups and downs along the way, the MFA700 motors have proved to be the right brushed motor choice afterall and are real wolves in sheep`s clothing!

The dreaded instability on cornering has failed to materialise and is great fun to power round the lake, attracting attention by it`s…."What the hell is that?" appearance!

The crystal clear bow wave is very unusual and a good talking point

Brutus is a super regatta display model

All we need to do now, is to sort the leak out

Well done, Paul and we`ve got Brutus ready for the show, just in the nick of time!

This has certainly been both an interesting and educational design exercise and I am delighted that it has been successful. It does make a nice change from just building kits and existing designs as it promotes an understanding of how important design is to performance.

          Well done to all involved.

Excellent, Paul and Bob – a credit to you both and a good advertisement for the hobby.

Couldn't help but notice on the film clip the ball on top of the transmitter which is a requirement by most clubs. Guess the model must be on 40 or 27mhz.

Was the driver supposed to hit the marker buoy?

We are still on 40 meg…..I am using the twin stick F14, which is ideal for twin motor set ups

The buoy appeared from nowhere, your honour and rushed at me, leaving me no room for evasive action!

Hope to finally meet you at Haydock?

She's looking the part now, Bob. I can see that glint of restrained menace in her eye! She looks like she's just beginning to climb up on the plane in a couple of photos, the extra speed suits her well.

                  Top marks Bob and Paul!

I'm just thinking about how to add a menacing set of choppers….No, not axes!…..to the bows, to liven up the decor, for the forthcoming show!

                          Bob

The last time I saw 'trendy flames' was at the rainy city custom car show in 1975.

If its down to me then I would say that the boats unusual profile is sufficient and that any adornment (teeth, flames or red windows) is counter productive….a classic case of less is more.

But if forced to choose between flames and teeth then I would opt for teeth and do a paint job similar to the Flying Tigers.

                            SATIN BLACK at the least.

I am after seeing the bow wave at full trot please. Chop chop.Full trot.

                                          Dear Readers

For those of you who are thinking that I have lost my marbles or that my medication has been changed I would like to qualify Captain Bobs comments.

                                          laughgood stuff this codeine

As stated earlier I don't believe that the model needs any embellishment but as Jane reminded me this is Bobs boat and I should be supporting his wishes.

With Jane's wise words in my mind I proposed two sets of Jaws that , as the designer, I thought best suited the model.

Very interesting, but the snag with the big grin is that it is printed on photo paper and the big grin encroaches over the curved chine edge!

                                            Making a tricky risky challenge!

I will print it off and see what can be done, to my satisfaction

                                              Hey, Paul…….Got an idea!

This is really a super duper Eureka Moment, moment!

The hull requires two or even three, enormous breasthooks, like dustbin lids, 10mm thick in fact!

Then I recalled the last super duper idea for flexi stringers, with some assistance from Mike the Invisible man!……Thanks, Mike

What do we think of this idea then?…..Thin flexi ply, glued in layers….Perfect adjustable curves, just where we want them!…….Betty Grable?…….Eat your heart out!

Note this idea can be used for the straights too!

                                                Hi Bob

The big grin does encroach on the chine but it does look quite good on the 3D image, sorry but incompatible software means I cant show you. But to a chap with your artistic skills I would expect to see some very super and gory teeth.teeth

The laminated stringers are a super idea and will certainly reduce the overall dry weight of the boat, if you agree I think that we should run with the laminated stringers and see how they perform in the completed boat.

Pleased you like the idea, Paul

My problem now is how do we want the bows leading edge to look?

Do we cut the keel leading edge back with big chamfers and taper the skins back too?.etc

                                                  I suppose we do

I propose skinning with 3mm lite ply

The intention is to build up a nice thickness of timber around the bow post and then carefully chamfer off the excess material.

A bit late to worry about us being confused, that time came and went a few pages back
