The rudder mech is now finished……..Just trying to pluck up the courage to glue the stern cover on!

Just a nice general view, showing the unusual lines of the hull

Not glueing the cover on yet, until the pro shafts are in!

They are due any day now

Living with the build for the last two months, has made me Blasé to the outrageous shape of your Masterpiece!

It should attract a few funny glances at Ellesmere Port if they don't know about this website!

You aren't going to seal up the tiller connections are you Bob? I always make it a rule to ensure that all the internal gubbins are accessible for maintenance as at some point in the future you can bet your life they will need to be!

What if you have an unfortunate collision with something underwater which bashes the rudders and distorts them?

Do you chaps, out there, realise that this model is the first ever build of an Axe Head launch!

Paul deserves some recognition for all his design skills and original foresight, creating this wonderful model……..Especially…….. Straight off the drawing board!

Come on, chaps, make the effort and purchase a set of plans for charity and make Paul's efforts worth while?

You'll find the link on the Brutus quick finder page

I am using nylon tillers, I have said this a dozen times. They can be fumbled on blind and adjusted "remotely", the way to go.

The prow is unusually sharp but is quite fragile when it comes to slicing models in half, including the occasional steam plant!

So we`ve embedded a length of 1.5mm piano wire in, to give the axe edge a slight advantage!

To get the wire to bend round a sharp corner……It need some persuasion!

                        Hello Colin

Only just spotted your post, apologies for replying earlier

                        The gibbons are accessible really…….But…..

We have two motors…..Don't need any rudders?

Bob , Personally I would leave the wire off. If you bash something, the bow will still dink due to the large weight and hence momentum, It will then be more tricky to repair as the wire will not straighten properly…WHEREAS if the bow was just wood you slap on a bit of P38, sand, paint and its like new again.

                              Just a thought.

I have just finished something with no rudders and although very manouverable, I am anticipating being unable to hold a straight course but this will not matter too much in my case. Yours would be a bit tricky although you do have the sticky down bit aft.

I looked at impact damage to the bow and agreed with Bobs suggestion to epoxy a reinforcing bar into the forward edge.

I did some calcs and if the model hit the bank at speed without the reinforcing it would suffer catastrophic failure and basically ruin the model however with the bar added the force of the impact is distributed more evenly across the forward section of the model giving a better chance of survival

                                Paul

I would go along with the metal insert idea although I normally use square section brass.

It should take care of most impacts.

Ashley and Paul……It just seemed a good idea at the time and Paul liked the idea anyway

The Axe edge was getting banged about, during the building stage and something needed to be done about it

                                    We'll see how it performs

Cor, You lot obviously hit too many things on your ponds….

Could the design be altered slightly and include, therefore, a flat brass strip insert (for instance) for just this scenario? Or a bit of hardwood?

                                              They've got a point, Paul

We can have a grey and black boat, but it will need Yellow hazard stripes at the cutting edge of Technology!

What shall we do about this possible hazard?

Bob. Are they joking? They have NO point. A jet black boat should be easily visible, and its no small size. Why not ban grey warships then?? They are even less visible. Ban subs !! ban motorised ducks !! ban ban ban

This is precisely why we do not have a club at Bushy Park. Anyone who could not see such a large black boat should not be on the water, in any event, you will be controlling it, it is not as if it will be free running.

Sail somewhere else. You would not believe the variety of craft what will be in our pond this morning.
