      Thanks Ash

      All good suggestions

Wonder if I could represent a missile going off, using a smoke feature of some sort?……Hmmmmmm?

      And similar novelties?

Can we have smoke without fire?

        Captain Bob

You could use a compressed air system to launch the missiles.

…spring loaded missiles in their silos, powder of some sort to stimulate smoke? Wheat flour perhaps to be ecological.

Depth charge launcher firing sinking duck pellets (round ones).

Loudspeaker playing Dolly Parton songs (make anyone retreat)

Thanks Chaps, a few good ideas there

A few years ago, a chap in the club built a vintage battleship, with a cannon that fired broadsides of pond pellets, using the now banned Brocock cartridge, the compressed air looked very realistic to

Still waiting for the spray paint, before I can fit the motor drives into the hull

On your very excellent opening illustration, your ship has bulwarks

I rather fancy the idea with lots of gussets etc

What height would be about right?

12 mm ?…..We may then be able to to use 00 gauge railway staff?

The size would put the idea of scale of the model

Bob. It is important to find/decide what figures you intend to use first, and THEN scale the bits to them. Otherwise you will end up with figures that look too large or too small against the parts.

It is a good idea to put small figures on, as you say, it will scale the boat. Figures on the bridge would be the place I reckon.

                  Here we go chaps

                  HO chappie 11/16 " tall with a 1/2" bulwalk

Up in the superstructure, I propose similar dims……1l2 " wall with 3/8" openings

                  Any comments?

I use doorways as a guide to scale, if you assume that a typical doorway or vertical hatch is 2m high then you also have the scale height of a typical person.

After that everything else is related to this 2m scale height.

Bob move your HO scale man back to the central superstructure and see if he looks right against the windows / doors and roof height.

                          Hello Paul

Have looked into taking the bulwalk all the way down the hull, but it hid the elegant curve of the hull top area

So I`ve done a mockuo with a short forward bulwalk ending at the front of the top section with a doorway etc

Can you comment on this idea and suggest improvements etc

We can mess about with the stern section to look like your Title photo later

Sadly the photo that accompanied my article wasn't my choice.

On mk1 I never intended to use bulwarks as I was trying to create a sleek uncluttered shape.

Seeing the bulwarks on mk2 has made my reconsider but I would continue them down the curve of the hull and feather them out to follow the transom.

                                  Hi Paul

The Artist who designed the latest Battleship of the future, inside the mag, has done a splendid layout, not too futuristic, as 2050 is not that far away, hence…..No Death Rays etc

I can imagine lots of Missiles and dozens of Drones would be the order of the day?

Not forgetting a super computer controlled enemy weapons detector inside that cavernous hull

Not forgetting the latest explosive armour plating etc?

This reminds me of a clever chap at a factory I once worked at.. Dan, he was called, had a most boring job, sawing up bars of steel all day. He spent his time wisely, inventing gadgets all day long. He once proposed a Battle Tank of the Future! Somehow, the War Dept got wind of it and was actually visited by the Men in Black!

The matter was closed by him having to sign the Secrets Act!……..Wow!

                                  Exciting stuff, eh?

That little story would make a nice film, one day

Bob…..Keeping a low profile at the moment

Hey up!…..There`s somebody knocking on the front door!….Ecky thump!

Bob. Perhaps your rear hatch could become a pop-up helicopter pad complete with a rotating blade ‘copter!

You also can’t beat a rotating radar array on a navel vessel, realistic or not.

A truly futuristic feature would be a 'pop up' deck gun, quite easy to engineer and very impressive when the model is sailing.

Finaaly got the white Primer spray paint to seal the inside of hull

Then the motor and controls can be fitted and have a play

Glued on the first of the forward bulwarks, for the crews safety when refilling the missile silo's etc

Beefed up the Bulwarks to provide the crew some protection from a Drone attack

The forward area is where the Missiles are stored

The problem is confused with so many possibilities

Why even think about a super ship?

Why not stay at home and send Drones to any part of the world and let them do the dirty work?….etc

Drones are great for surveillance and attacking insurgents, but the drones we have actually in service at the moment would just be cannon/missile fodder in a shooting war, Unless you had a drone like a fighter equipped with defensive aids and so on and these would be expensive.

Unfortunately with the MOD currently as it is wasting money in an incomprehensible and totally shambolic incompetent fashion we will never ever see a “super ship” in the RN.

BUT. your ship Bob, needs to fully equipped with ray guns, ghetto blasters, drones, big guns and so on! The more the merrier! Go for it. A super ship is not super unless festooned with gadgets.
