      Hello all,

When putting in a bow thruster, what is needed to take the power from the receiver to the engine and control the speed? Nothing to flash I hope…

      cheers

CP. simply another ESC is required. It means you will need another channel. If the bow thruster is not too powerful I suppose a servo operating a microswitch may suffice. A cheaty person like myself MIGHT try and put microswitches on the rudder sevo, to be operated at full rudder throw and then using the trimmer to finally operate the switch?  Ash

            Hi Chris,

After just finishing my “Aziz”, I can tell you that I fitted my first Bow Thruster and it was given power though a ESC ,Mtroniks 15amp the same as the two independant motors on the boat, it was wired through to the 4th Channel on the receiver to give left and right movement on the left stick to match the left right movement on the right stick for the rudder . It all went together quite easily and I’m no expert,I just ask a lot of questions at the club I’m a member of at Etheow Model Boat Club !.
You do need at least a 4 ch receiver though ,Is there any advantage buying anything less these days though ,when this boat is finished you will most probably be doing another anyway ,perhaps you should splash out and get one of the new 2.4Gig trannies hey.

              Hi Ash, Ducky,

I have had a look at the Spektrum DX5e seems very easy to use,  plus could sort out the interferance too I seem to have… on 27Mhz.

Ash, I hope to see you on the water tomorrow and have a chap re the bowthruster…

              cheers

There is a full 4 page review of the Spektrum DX5e in May Model Boats, I got my subscriber copy this morning but it’s on the newsstands from next Thursday.

                It gets the thumbs up!

                   Hi Colin

Most of our club members choice is the Spektrum DX6i which is the model I’m thinking about for the wife to use as it seems simpler to dial in other models in use .

Will look out for the review on the DX5e though might save me some money .

Hope the shut off button works well !!

I have several boats with their own esc and reciever in, I can afford this because I am obscenely wealthy and a viper 15A esc is only 22£ and a 27Mhz reciever £12 or so… I BELIEVE a spektrum reciever is around the £35 mark???   Its this that puts me off a bit….   Ashley

                      Mmmm,

There are some Spektrums with all the bits bounding around for £70, see what takes my fancy maybe on the winter project?
