Hi everyone, I am fairly new to Marine Modelling, and have recently completed a 1/12th scale working model of Miss Supertest III (Classic Hydroplane). I am keen to get it out and use it, and i am trying to find out if there are any suitable lakes or ponds in and around the Chichester (west Sussex) area where using a fast electic model boat will not cause any problems (the locations i know of are generally inhabited by a variety of wildlife, and using my boat at these places would not go down well!)
      Many thanks
      Pete

Hi Peter,   also Colin please note

There used to be a list of Clubs on this Forum before it was revamped.
You may fall fowl (ho ho) of H&S as most Councils ban fast craft.
Have a look in the Mag for addresses of racing speedboat organisers.

          Len.

PS   I have found that if you move your mouse around the Club details Text 4 down from ” my account “box until the little hand appears, then you can access the list of Clubs. However!   The top dozen or so are obscured by the righthand Advertisments

Len,if you have not found  the solution yet:- save a copy of the page as full html then delete browse_.002.css or just the page files folder to leave the bare html.

                Yes Len,

There do seem to be some problems with the left hand column. Something else to put on my little list!

I’m not sure where the list of clubs has come from either. Anybody know?

                    The box seems to move!
It is over here now, to the left of my skull.

I believe it was a work in progress and there are possibly references to it “being up to members to alert” Vinnie, the previous web editor.

With an html editor he address colums could be combined to make the table 600 pixels wide.
Ideas from me:- pop up maps on a hyperlink at each row
A map with numbers or does anyone know how to embed links on an image?

                      More on that:

The Club list appeared on the old site in an article called Club Lists via Home » News > Scale Scene where Ted Goldring kicked off the discussion.

Scale scene via the menu is now Home > Features > Scale Scene but it is not on any of the present articles.

Some other information I have received suggests that this was indeed a “work in progress” which has now stalled.

Quite frankly I rather think that attempting to run a list of this nature on this website is rather pointless since as soon as it is published it goes out of date as individual club details, contacts etc. change and there is no mechanism in place for updating it. Simply relying on people to tell you is no use at all.

My inclination would be to replace it with links to the MPBA, MYA etc. who do keep updated lists which are likely to remain reasonably accurate. For those clubs who don’t belong to any organisation a simple query on the Forum is likely to bring forth a response.

Colin, you are absolutely correct,  it would be far more practical to replace the club list with the links you mentioned.

                          Peter.

Model boats magazine seems unbound by the politics where some traders and publishers are hesitant to “get into bed” with clubs. If abandoning the club list is purely down to percieved technical problems then I’ll update that file myself, with sellotape and string if needed.

I think this website, with its prime url, could be an excellent reference point and a far better one than the “.ORGs” whose output waxes and wanes.

I expect the technical problems could be overcome, it’s keeping the list up to date that presents the real difficulty. It’s not as if we can send all the clubs a postcard every year asking them to confirm their details. On the other hand, organisations such as the MPBA and MYA do have a vested interest in keeping their own lists up to date.

Thanks for the offer to do the job yourself 60 Watt , but as your own sign on details on this forum are all a complete fabrication you’ll forgive me if I express some doubts……

I had  inclusion dependant on email contact in mind.
I had the table squashed up but no popup map links or quick search solution.

Would I insert a fictitous entry?
I’m glad you hadn’t consigned the list to the bin as that is what it seemed was about to happen.

No, I wouldn’t chuck it away on a whim. Obviously a lot of work has gone into it. But it still begs the question of how it can be reliably kept up to date.
