Hi I am new to the hobby but am as keen as mustard to restore an old 16 inch wooden inboard boat I picked up recently
My dilema is that the hull surface is slightly rough and I’d like to know what to do to end end up with a nice SMOOTH hull and and have a two tone paint job above (white) and below (black) the waterline
Here is what’s going through my head?
How do I prep the wood ? do I use a primer first or a varnish? how many coats? what grade of sand paper do I use, what sealant do I use, how do I mask of the waterline for spraying? How do I rub back the tone tone colours in a way that they colours don’t merge with each other?

      ..basically a million questions??????

If anybody has an suggestions, tips or knows of a tried and tested routine or process I’d love to know about it!

      many thanks
      Russell

Use car body filler on the hull then lots of elbow grease with sandpaper of various grades.

I use car body spray can paints from Ha****ds.

          Len.

              Hi Russell

Have a look at one of my threads titled "Sea Commander Restoring a Classic" it might help with your project.

To find it just type "sea commander" in the search box and click on the titles heading.

              Good luck

              Paul

Hello to Billy No Mates and welcome to our shared experience.

Thanks for the kind comments about my sea commander thread.

GRP can be a bug+er to glue especially if you are truing to stick some other material to it, GRP resin and tape is always best but in the past I have used twin pack epoxy glues to great effect.

                        All the best

                        Paul
