Hi everyone. Dont want to take up too much of your time with my problems. But you may have a real simple fix for me.
Firstly i’ll tell you what i have and what its doing and not doing.
I have a Futaba Skysport Ripmax 4 channel reciever, a futaba FP-R116FB reciever, Futaba S3003 servo for the rudder.Caldercraft 130A ESC, MFA/Como Drills 919D series Single ratio gearbox motor. Also i have installed a bow thruster and water pump for monitors. All 12volt.
Right. I firstly plugged in the bow thruster and pump to the reciever, and switched it on at the ESC, they both fired up . It seems the have a constant supply of power and no off! No response from the transmitter.
When i hook up the Motor individually it just rotates once when i switch the on switch on at the ESC. There is a resistor on the motor. OK, and lastly, i hook up the servo individually, it just turns in one direction and stops…with out even touching the transmitter!
I took the ESC out of the equation and the servo works fine, but the bow thruster and pump still have a constant power supply
to them without touching the transmitter. Even if i take the 12v supply off, it works of the ni-cad batteries supplying the reciever!

I hope you have a solution, because ive tried most things to trouble shoot and come up with nothing.

I appreciate the time set aside to read this thread

          Hi Dwayne,

Are you getting any response from the transmitter at all? Does a servo work when plugged into each receiver channel and, if so, is it the channel you expect it to work on?

Thanks Colin. Yes it does respond to the servo when i plug it in different channels. However this only happens when i take the ESC out of the loop. It works on the reciever battery. If i plug the 12v supply into the ESC and then plug the servo into the reciever, it just rotates in one direction and doesnt do anything! doesnt respond to transmitter either!

I’m not an expert on this but if the speed controller has a BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) and you have a separate receiver battery then if the BEC wire is not cut then you will get problems.

Hopefully somebody else can fill in the detail on this.

I am not sure how have plugged in your bow thruster and water pump to the receiver. I would have thought there would need to be a speed controller for the bow thruster and switch for the fire monitor pump as you could not connect either device directly to the receiver. Can you draw a simple diagram to show how these have been connected?

It sounds as though they are both just taking the power from the receiver power supply. The receiver alone could not control either of these devices, just provide power on the centre and outside pins of the receiver connectors.

Hi Dwayne I don’t fully understand your thread, but, You need to wire up your drive motor ESc to give you power you power to drive your boat (forward and backward) . Connect the ESc and the steering servo to the receiver, switch on the Tx then the Rx If the system works then you have a ESc with BEC, and don’t need a RX battery. (If there is a switch connected to the ESc it most probably has BEC) . Having got this part working, then you will need an extra servo operating a microswitch or a RC operated switch pluged into a spare channel on the RX and connect the pump through the switch to the battery so the “spare” channel can be used to operate the pump.
The bow thruster can be controlled by either
a small ESc on the last RX channel (this must NOT have BEC, ) to give forward/backward (side to side) controle of the thruster motor
or a third servo operating microswitches to give forward/reverse of the thruster motor from the main battery.

                  Hope this helps Tom

Have a look at the wiring diagrams on the ACTion R/C Electronics site http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/

Although featuring their own products the principles are just the same and you should be able to find an equivalent to your setup.

                      Hi Dwayne,

I think the others have probably hit the nail on the head: if your ESC has a BEC then you don’t need a receiver battery, and adding one will cause problems with the ESC. Forget the bow thruster and pump for now, and work on getting the ESC and rudder servo operating. Once they are are working, then work on the fancy stuff!!!
