DEAR sir. as someone with very limited modelling experience i was wondering if your publication can help me . i wish to build a model mfv and have purchased the plans from myhobbystore , for the 61.5 admiralty fishing vessel as i know these made up a lot of our post war fishing fleet
. My first question is as a complete novice starting out , what is the best way to transfer plan details to wood i have been told carbon paper and also to use tissue paper ? . i am thinking of using 4mm ply for the frames and 3 mm for the deck . also is there anywhere i can get complete drawings of the frames so i can just use instead of trying to work out dimensions ?
An Abs hull would be a great help but finding one is impossible as i have searched to no avail so i will have a go with plank on frame . Any help whatsoever you can give me would be most welcome , even a step by step guide in your magazine would be great starting from very beginnings . best wishes mr D Stokes

I think you will find this thread, by my old friend John Elsy, very informative. There are other Masterclass builds on the same website. **LINK**

How much experience have you had of modelling generally?

You have picked a rather difficult boat for a novice – the description of the plans makes it clear that this is intended for someone with 'some experience' of building from plans.

One approach would be to put that plan aside for a while and make a simpler boat first to gain some experience. If you want to proceed with the MFV, then the 2015 Model Boats December 2015 issue gives a supporting article (as stated in the plan description!). You might also want to contact a nearby model boat club, where people will be able to provide practical assistance and advice. There are usually many ways of approaching technical build issues, and you will need to try some out before you find which one you prefer….

This new manufacturer that is in Test Bench in the May MB on sale in April, has an AMFV hull that is, I suspect, to an enlarged J. Pottinger plan. I know no more than what is on the website, but it would save making the hull and no doubt Omega could confirm which plan the hull is derived from.

i now realise caldercraft did the 45ft version as a kit in the past called mfv ocean crest . will see if anyone has this kit around but i believe its old now
