After wacking the Comtesse mast a couple of times on overhead/roof-mounted protrusions (in the cellar room) as well as stumbling over surface roots and rocks while carrying the yacht to the lakeside, I have given in and bought a trolley. It's a bit of a monster, but costs less than buying a new mast. Sides and ends can be easily folded down or removed completely. The netting floor has been cut away to allow the keel and rudder to protrude below.20200723_175545.jpg

Nice one George. You do need some substance to a trolley or else it will just bounce uncontrollably over every single stone.

i would consider a larger better fitting foam insert for the yot (or anything else) ideally squidgy sponge

but builders 50mm expanded polystyrene would be cheap and easy to use, perhaps with a soft foam seat for the boat itself?.

Thanks for your suggestions Ashley. The foam I used here was just a sort av evaluation. Bought a childs cot matress from IKEA (£10) and cut it up as a test. I will make a basic bed, maybe from polystyrene as you suggest. Then I need different inserts to suit the three yachts I hope to have by Easter-ish. The Fisher and Colin Archer may be able to use the same bits if -as you suggest- I use soft squidgy (latex?) sponge. I'll certainly go for better lateral support than you see here.

            Have a nice weekend
