WILL be there Sunday but will have to leave quite early. Test the fireboat out.

The “Ultimate” Bushy park top is virtually finished. It IS the ultimate top. Totally awesome, dude.

Not the best first fireboat test on Sunday, as the squirters were not working!

Despite being ok in the garden pond, the esc seemed to cutting out at Bushy. It would fire up and then cut out..on both a 3s and 7.2 stick. Luckily I appear to have a 20A brushed aircraft esc at home to substitute, however the current esc is exactly the same as the one in the Sutcliffe Valiant and I have had no trouble with that so not sure what’s going on.

Just possibly the pump is taking more than it’s rated 2.5A current due to the lack of water flow, however it’s an 8A (15A burst) esc So should be man enough, and I don’t think the motor stalls if the pump outlet gets blocked, as the impeller would just whizz round..it’s not like a piston or gear pump, it has an impeller underneath.

Anyway. Will pop to the pond this morning with the new esc as it’s sunny and get some snaps.

New esc…all ok. Impressive both in number of hoses and volume of water.

Good job I didn’t glue the monitors in place as I adjusted them once I saw where the water was going, from a fan sort of spread to more of a simple broadside.

I had planned a Victorian warship for this hull, with working (water) cannon, but this 2nd hull is a bit too long/thin, so will do another GP1 hull top and no water cannon.

not going to make it again tomorrow but defo next weekend ☹️

Ye olde Golden Hind is coming along well, maybe a bottom wetting next week? Weed was bad last week might need a rake for tomorrow?

have fun and I’ll catch up soon.

Weed wasn’t too bad and Simons snagging May have been just going too far out.

Other than that (and Simmons first airboat outing) all boats running well. I had the fireboat, paddle warship and Hobbies Hydro out.

Busy building boat boxes at the moment. The ULTIMATE top and GP2hull I one, and fireboat top in the other. A bit more in it than usual as there is a lot of plumbing to consider.

My very first and only plan submission has given Lindsey an umm and arr moment, and I can see where she is coming from and I thought this may be the case when I sent it for a perusal and indeed it was on a ‘what do you think’ basis in the first place. It was only the plan aspect that was questionable but it looks like it is possible to get round that.

Boxes built. The ULTIMATE will out on Sunday to the incredulity and amazement of all. Be warned.

Actually, need some small letters so I can put the name on the bow. As usual I have loads of letters, none suitable!

Ooooh, sounds interesting? Will be there (at last!) with my new one to wet it’s bottom, lots still to do but all the sails are on and working ready for a test run.

mr Magoo (where’s me boat?) will also be attending, mustn’t forget my waders! 😂

well warm by the pond today!

The ULTIMATE went ok, Squirted, made noises. Paddles looked good. Bumpers good.

                          BUT

Simons airboat…..a common phrase at the pond is "whats the worst that can happen?". Well, if like Simon you give in to egging-on calls of "give it some"…..your engine falls off!! lessons learnt….and the cause of all that vibration becomes apparent. Top tip, use bolts and nyloc nuts to secure your motor!! but it was going well apart from that minor issue, and there was no damage or lost parts.

New man MARK turned up, on a cycle, with two Keilcraft (from free plan) boats which went very nicely. Mark is not afraid of the water as he had to do a bit of wading to recover said boats AND the rescue bumper which had been sent out as they were mired in WEED, which is rife due to all the hot sunny weather. The pond feels like a warm bath at the moment.

Next Sunday we will have to think carefully about what to bring. Near to the jetty it was not too bad, but the currently low water level has made the pond shallower than normal.

When you say Mark brought two Keil craft from plans, do you mean Eezebilt ones from the website?

I am thinking of building two for winter projects, I have copied the designs but redrawn the parts to give a slightly bigger model of 20".

I can remember building two of the kits in the 1960's.

Hi Tim. Yes I think they may have been, he talked about downloading the plans. I get confused, are eze-built and Keilcraft same/similar/nothing like?

Sorry didn’t get snaps. Will get snaps and details next time.

The smaller had a period out board on it which he re-engined with a n other flat sided 140 size motor scavenged from summit else. It went very well, POSs because it is likely to have been a 3v motor and he was using a small 2s Lipo! It was getting very warm and wisely spent most of its time at 1/2 throttle.

Yes Keilkraft produced the Eezebilt boats and they can be downloaded from the website.

The original ones are there with some larger and newer designs. My PT boat at 28" OSA Missile Boat at 32" are from the newer designs.

The one with the outboard is the Cresta, I 'm thinking of having a go at one but at 20", a deeper hull and a dummy outboard. Hopefully that will make it easy to put a small brushless motor in.

The other plan I have been looking at is the Triton, one I built in the 60's, again slightly bigger than the original to make room for motor and battery.

Yes they were Eezebilt models from plans downloaded from the web.

Here's the Cresta with a Neptune in the backgound.

Glad I have my Triton and Crests plans printed out as the Eezebilt website seems to have gone down.

Don't think it's me! I have tried various devices but just get a " website not available" message.

Fellows. Its likely to be weedy tomorrow.

I will be taking the Saucer and Sutcliffe (pump powered), Hobbies Hydro (air prop, streamlined rudder, and Moana. She now sports TWO rudders so we will see if she steers any better (before being weeded up).

However it might not be too bad by the jetty. I suppose i will bung in the Bumpers on top of that, just in case (not forgetting the puck)!

Well. Car park virtually empty, and although there was masses of weed, it was all half way across the other end of the pond, leaving a big area near the jetty crystal clear and completely weed free.

Sailed all boats. Moana went a bit better with two rudders.

a man turned up with a wooden ‘boat sculpture’…didn’t take a snap. Unpowered, and a bit top heavy, but nice enough for what he was trying to achieve.

Another man on a bike stopped for a good chat, being a boater himself but not bringing any boats to the pond. He recognised the Sutcliffe and Saucer as being in the mag, he reeled off another few boats, and guess what…they had been in the mag too!, hands up, it was me. He has a Bowman replica that is years in the build waiting for a steam engine. We suggested he put an electric motor in with a Bowman-esc style top…he could put the electric bits on a raft of the same size as the (eventual) steam plant, that would be easy and interchangeable. Of course, once it had gone electric on the water he might not bother with the steam plant….

So, not too hot, a surprisingly good mornings weed free boat.

Not much rain, but, it was very warm in the North East of England – we went down at 8.00 a.m. before the crowds Even though the Council are treating the lake to keep the weed/algae down there was a weird green 'misty' looking algae floating just below the surface of the water in the pond – sadly no pictures of the boats, but, we did see and get a picture of a carp swimming around (apparently there are 3 of them in the lake) no doubt the local tribe will have their fishing rods out when they realise the size of them.

Hi John. Rain!! There are some very large carp in our ponds. There is a bit of stream connecting the leg-o-mutton and Heron lakes and it is STUFFED with carp. You could catch them with a large landing net!

No rain here. The dire weather warnings obviously kept people away, although it doesnt stop them going on holiday to Spain Greece or wherever????

Trevor has purchased a large Buzz and it looking for the right style of boat to put him in. I suggested a large box affair with a lid and two wheels on the bottom, but he is not going with this option….

The current build (a new gp hull top) is currently mired in the production of lots of small bits. I am awaiting some plastic tube to make gun turrets, and nothing can be stuck on the deck until I have made said turrets.

in John Parker’s article in the new mag there is a small illustrati9n of a boys own submarine, and I used to have the very same annual! I got rid of the book years ago, but scanned the simple unguided dynamic diving sub article, as you do, in case I ever felt the need to build it.

Anyone who wants the scans, as pdfs, just has to shout.

We suggested he put an electric motor in with a Bowman-esc style top…he could put the electric bits on a raft of the same size as the (eventual) steam plant, that would be easy and interchangeable. Of course, once it had gone electric on the water he might not bother with the steam plant….

Put an electric motor in a Bowman style boat! Sacrilege! Go wash your mouth out young man. Electric motor indeed.

                                                      Washed out (with cold beer)….

Considering the delay in fitting/making in the first place the steam plant it was thought that getting the completed hull in the water would give impetus to making said steam plant, obviously…
