Exactly. All the things that have gone wrong so far are mistakes you won’t make next time.

            Hey chaps….i’m Talking encouragement here!

OBVIOUSLY we all make the same mistakes again and Ray is dead right and the wife is keen to point them out.

I am not sure I can continue here without talking myself into a corner. ☠️

Fireboat coming on , and I have made all the usual short-cuts, re-works, cheats and compromises in the build so far, as usual!

I have searched in vain for the Massey Shaw drawing !! but when you have finished your model it's bound to surface

                  Richard. Yes!

Ray. No probs, I am not actually building the MS, just taking it as inspiration. There are loads of pictures on ‘t internet.

My firemen are likely to be WW2 figures, so a “wartime” look may come into play as the chaps will have tin hats on. Sandbags on the bridge etc

spectacular successes today. peters hydrofoil finally took off, literally, on its foils after a change to a Graupner P50 hydro prop, and young Simons ironman speedboat ALSO achieved supersonic speeds on a similar 50, although the thing went super quick on a S40….UNTIL we heard a sort of squeaky sound and said "bring it in soon" and sure enough the rear brass bearing on the prop shaft was almost glowing and welded to the shaft!!! Ooops. More work to be done.

You might need to be a bit careful if spraying spectators as too many people are aware of the nasties in pond water! Great fun for the kids but maybe not so much for their parents.

That is unfortunately true sadly. Luckily the saucer is on the new planet set and this has a two position switch some can squirt on half power, reducing range, and the fireboat will not have a big range, just lots of volume.

A reminder that the Bushy park mob are appearing at the Kempton steam museum on Sunday, ready to display and have awesome fun on the temporary pool with their Barbies and weird stuff.

Well worth a visit. The steam engine either one of or THE largest in the country, producing 1000hp is simply too massive for words, standing 4 stories tall. They have to warm it through for a day before letting it run on full pressure. Two of them either end of the hall, only one in running condition.

Hope all goes well Ashley, sorry I can't make it. Those huge steam pumping engines are awesome.

Back in the days of the MPBA Scale championships the Worthing MBC used to host regular regattas at the British Engineerium at Brighton. The cooling pond was used for the models.

The pond was surrounded but a brick gulley (leat) and the hot water from the engines was discharged into it and ran round the pond to cool it before entering the water for returning to the boilers. It was open to the public in those days.

A much older establishment than Kempton Park, it was initially constructed in 1866. Water was pumped from deep wells into the chalk directly beneath the engines.

For anyone else near, its well worth a visit and you may even see some top secret boats (and have a go with them) and meet the chaps.

Photo time again tomorrow, Sunday, to get snaps of canal boats and Barbies (now I have quite a good group photo). Hopefully it will be bright but not blazing sun, as it washes pictures out and is too contrasty.

Fireboat build good, but having issues ballasting the hull as although it’s deep, certain features are occupying a lot of space inside and there is a large opening underneath getting in the way of my usual strip lead external ballast keel. The deep ness of hull is unavoidable and means an awful lot of weight has to be applied.. power is via two 385s and despite the weight (likely 3+ Kg) I am confident the little rascals will be adequate.

If 3+ Kg does not sound very heavy, 7-800 g is more like my usual build weight!

Richard, Yes interesting day, and having a big pool in front of us was really great.

Looking at the pictures I can see we need to tweek the layout a bit with regards boxes underneath. I have an idea for this, involving stencilling. ALSO having boats on boxes and this raised from the table looks good.

The Egham royal show has apparently a multitude of boats entered, in a marquee, so we may think again on what to bring along. The lady want "interesting", so we may have to all out…..

Nice display. The small size of the photos doesn't help comment.

The Toyota truck on the low box at the front looks very vulnerable.

I can see what you mean about the boxes underneath but they are hardly the focus of anyone looking at the stall. To my eye the uneven flags are a bigger problem and appear to differ between the pictures.

Setting up a good looking stall is never going to be easy not is it going to be perfect.

Chris. All observations welcomed. Sorry didn’t realise the pictures were that small!

See what you mean about the flags, will sort that.

The Toyboata was put there due to fairly light foot traffic otherwise I would just have hidden it at the back.

If the boxes were all white and stacked largest on bottom with a “Bushy park boaters” (or woteva) stencil on them it would tidy this area up.

A raised shelf to display boats at the back would be something to think about as well.

Ashley, a lot of clubs, including Kirklees, use a piece cloth that covers the tables and hangs down to the floor. Then all the boxes can be stored behind it suitably out of sight.

Thing is, we are not a club and don’t really do shows, the Egham thing is out of the blue, the Kempton thing a low-key event. I think I can speak for the others and say we don’t want boxes of display stuff hanging about for the odd outing?

I think probably a white sheet covering the boxes and my nice satin sky blue top might be the way to go, as I have this already!

A banner might be nice and we have discussed this. Quite cheap from prontaprint, can be used at the pond …a few quid each.

Received the other day a parcel of cast polyurethane parts from ?Marks Model boat bits and they are very nice. Virtually no remedial work needed, paint and fit. Excellent.

Mechanicals/electrics fitted to new hull. Top almost ready. Needs a proper water test next. ALSO…some method of holding the top on, most likely a couple of screws, one either end, heads disguised as..deck bits.
