      Hi
as I have developed an allergy to super glue type adhesives I wondered if any others had suffered and found a cure or a suitable mask ?

or a variety that does not affect them

I too am allergic to superglue. I have heard suggestions for fume extraction and using saucers of water to nullify the effects but I’m not convinced. I can sometimes get away with using them in the garden while holding my breath and then running away but that does smack of desperation! If I get just one whiff of the fumes it gives me three days of acute hayfever symptoms which I prefer to avoid.

You will probably find that the odourless variety is OK but it is more expensive and usually requires a ‘kicker’ to set quickly.

Otherwise you just have to use alternatives which are equally effective but tend to take a bit longer to set. Epoxy is one and ‘Super Phatic’ from Deluxe Materials is also effective in a lot of applications. There are also acrylic based two part glues which work well but again they are quite expensive. UHU is also a good standby.

It’s just one of those things I’m afraid and you have to make the best of the situation.

If it is just the fumes then odour free versions are available from a number of sources including 5 Star and Deluxe Materials, I believe. Both have web sites that can be googled.
If it is more than the fumes, then you have a problem. Gloves may have to be worn to avoid getting any on your skin, use the glue in a well ventilated workspace and perhaps wear a mask. A car paint store could probably recommend a suitable type.
I find that the dust if one sands something with dried superglue on it is particularly horrible and is to be avoided in any circumstances.
Using spray accelerator can produce even worse fumes as the stuff crackles and pops.
So, good ventilation is essential, but also try an odourless version first, if you haven’t already.
            Hope this helps.

              Thanks for the replies
I have also been told about the saucer of water but it dosn’t seem to make much differance a humidifier has also been suggested but its an expensive option if it dont work
I have tried fans but some of these photo etch pieces are so small they can blow away I spend enough time on my knees looking for things as it is
Other glues do work but there is nothing quite as easy and precise as super glues
