Have in the past built model railways and recently sold my
exhibition standard 7mm scale Narrow Gauge Layout and now I’m looking for a
new project and thought how about an RC boat for something completely
      different.

Would welcome any advice, such as what kit would members recommend
for someone like myself to start with, perhaps a fishing boat.

Also where does one sail your finished model, are there places for
the general public, those of us that do not belong to a club.
I have looked on the web and the nearest club to me [Rugby,
Warwickshire] is some distance away, plus they all seem to meet
Sunday mornings, which I am unable to do.

      Many thanks for any help.

canals are a great place to sail models. do it regularly so long as they are weed clear.

as for model fishing boat kits, there are a number of manufacturers that sell. billing, model slipway, mountfleet models, caldercraft/jotika all do kits. there are also a number of manufacturers who do hulls. models by design, bill wood models to name but two.

forgive me for not including all, but i’m sure other members will add their own . neil

Roy. I would suggest buying a few publications, and get hold of the "specials" that were around at xmas time on back order (MB kit special for instance) and see what grabs your fancy. Most kit manufacturers give some indication as to difficulty etc, or you could get an ARTR…almost ready to run.. type. These require various degrees of fiddling with to complete but are basically ready made, and would give you a starter to see whats what..

Finding somewhere to sail is a problem. I think what we need is a list….nay, all members of the forum should indicate on their profile where they boat. That would soon build up a picture of venues, club or not, around the country.

How about Mr. webmaster geezer adding a box on the profile for this very thing ?????  Ashley
