        Hi AJ..

Thanks again for the kind comments…

my method of build might be a bit strange, as all the parts on deck are loose assembled so I can back track and adjust. Then stray paint or brush paint, also looking for the parts to fit and be near to scale is on going.

At the moment I have been sorting out the gantry and life boat, this is coming together, but have been looking for the method used to rig the cables to hold the boat in position.

Hope Mick will jump in at this point think he is ahead of my build….lol wink

Hullo! yes heard that I think if you look at the pics in the magazine you will see that there is a metal bar system which holds the keel in place then its just a rope from the hole in the cradle end around the boat but cant figure out where it fastens to, there will be a double block and tackle originaly think there would have been one on each crane but I am only putting one on the port side,

there is also a bracket on top of the ball ending which has a wing out each side the photo only shows two links of chain on each side this may have been for the rope sling for the boat originaly, think I may have a go at making the captive bolt system to hold the keel looks easy enough, cant make up my mind as to putting a cover on the boat or leaving it open seems a shame to cover up all that detail,

look carefully at the photos details all there will take photo of what I have done so far,

            >>metal bar system which holds the keel in place then its just a rope from the hole in the cradle end around the boat but cant figure out where it fastens to, …<<

That's the bit I am struggling with, as to …was there a crank and handle on the steel work to lower the boat?

As you can see the ropes on top seem to hold the life boat and do they fix to hoops on the front and aft..?

Also the two ropes that hold the boat in the cradle… I think!

              >>cant make up my mind as to putting a cover on the boat or leaving it open seems a shame to cover up all that detail,<<

It would in your case be a shame to cover all the great work you have done on the life boat…

In my case its just a plastic kit so nothing lost in having the cover on….lol

aye there is a double block and tackle I think origionaly on both cranes of the davits but you could only use one ata time to lift and lower the boat from either side,

all there is on the two wings are two links both oval thats two on each side of both wings,

the top block is hooked into the link, there must have been one on each davit so they could lower the boat either side

wouldnt let me send the pics here says its too long

                      Hi Mick…

You picture explains a lot and you have a great skill in making these small parts.

I understand now it makes lots of scene….

will you show the eye on the life boat front and aft, to attach the crane cable as you will not be covering the life boat with a green tarpaulin ?

You have lots of detail on the rig, mick, great work.

                      Regards,

                                Hi Mick…

I have re posted of your latest report on what's going on with your Wattle build..

                                >>Aye may put some more pictures up as I go,

I am having dickey fits trying to get the waterline just right as per the

drawing will get it in the bathtub with a few bits of masking tape stuck

on then try get a balanced line,

I have a lighter green on the deck which was a primer filler but I likes

it so may just leave it as is! just have to do the deckhouse roof floor

the same which is going to be awkward as I should have done it before

                                fixing the funnel etc.

                                <<

As you Mick I have gone from Primer to spray painting some parts ( cabin) and hand painting others ( gantry for the life boat and funnel intakes / air vents.

Started to make head way on the rivet panel / lower deck house, then will have to re spray.

                                Regards,

                                Ian

sorted the water line ma mate came round with a lazer level and it was all over in a few moments! it was lopsided so I am happy he came over, have given the bottom of the hull a quick blast over with primer just needs a light sanding then the red oxide and hopefully that will be that, (rubbing hands together) can then start building it all together, still have wheel room light to fit and funnel light as well then the deck can go down and start of the most boring job of all fitting the bullwark supports will just grit my teeth and get on with it,

am beginning to win at last

                                                  Hi Mick…

I hope all is well up in the cold north….lol

Thanks for the kind comments, the hull is drying out and some of the lumpy bits are stretching back, so will move on to the hull and sanding with more filling and primer coats……soon… ish indecision

I have not done half the work you have on the interior of the hull.. with shelf for batteries and smoke unit, also wiring not even thought that through as yet…lol

Still in the planning stage with, hull plates, but think I will be having a go, and as Bob once said… some one will come along and do a better build..blush.

As you say mick….the colours are near enough and to your eyes pleasing..I think if we went back to the tugs active days in the 30s…It was all probably covered in soot and grime…

As one of the black and white pictures of its day show, it was a very active tug.

Also want to put couple of lights in the rear housing for the engine and lower cabin area.
