in the middle of building my latest scratch build, in the winter work shop, as i am a member of steam club get funny looks when i turn up with models not steam powered seeing you need a 2nd morgage to buy a steam plant, i thought i will build a one with a dummy plant with real power a small elc motor hidden from view, to see what happens at the next meeting ,

pictures show result so far , cheers Larry…..swan build 001.jpg

Young "Crocodile" Andy at Bushy Park has a fake steamer similar in style to that pictured larry. He has a very convincing fake boiler and a real little twin pot engine, driven by an electric motor. He has a chuff chuff sound module and a foggy steam generator. I would challengr anyone to see that it was NOT a real steam powered boat. Very nice.

The last few weeks have been fairly cold and with virtually no wind and these conditins have been exactly right fot the foggy generator. The steam has been drifting at the same speed as the boat and due to the cold, is even more voluminous than might otherwise be the case.

i will admit to being fooled by the "fake" steamer, even down to the engine bolts !

Larry, Looks very nice so far and I recon will look great when on the water and "steaming" past.

just a comment, and not a criticism, but If I was making this, I would make a much larger "steam engine" so that this would be more of a feature and reinforce the fact that it is a steamer. similarly a moving part…flywheel or wotnot would also add reinforcement.

Andy`s steam engine is driven round by a small geared electric motor and you can see this easily when it chuffs past and adds to the real steam look.
