My comment wasn’t very helpful for a newbie, naturally the more experienced know what a Bob’s Board is so here is an explanitary drawing. I never can remember what the board is called until I go into an electrical shop and see it on the shelf. The circle in the middle is to suit the servo you are using and the wipers are fitted to each end of a two arm fitting. The resisters usually fit underneath the board.
You need to appreciate that when in use the arm does swing as far as it will when you twist it manually so full power is not at the end of the swing in either direction. I would have three or four lines with no connection and then three lines coupled each for slow and medium. and the rest are full bore.
I don’t know anything about your motor so you will need to experiment with the resistors, they are cheap enough.
I just have scale boats but from what I have seen of the speed boats they are driven fast so a fine control is hardly needed. The main drawback of this design is that you are drawing full power all the time, except when off, but some of the power is being drained off by the resistors at slow and medium settings.
Hope this helps
