Last night, I was advised that http://www.specialistauctions.com/ had set up three new categories in their Nauticalia section. To access them, follow path collectables – nauticalia on the above link to their website and then you will find a number of maritime online auctions including “Ship Models.” This would seem to be an ideal way of selling models online as they have free registration and there are NO listing fees. You can also put six pictures on listings free of charge. In the event of the item selling, their commission is also very low, about 3.4% I think.

Just thought I would te you know. The other two new categories are Merchant Navy and Royal Navy.

            Hi Neil,
Thanks.   It seems pretty good – made my first sale last night, not a model, but a ship model CD, but it shows that there is interest there considering the ship model section only started a day ago.

there’s lots to look at on the site……lets just hope it grows better than fleebay.
I must have spent a couple of hours looking on it last night after I had looked at your posting.
              cheers,neil.

There are a couple of ways that it scores over “the other site.”     No listing fees and very low commission fees (3%).   Also, they do no inisit on Payal being offered for sellers.    I have no particular objection to Paypal’s selling fees, but I have always felt uneasy that a buyer can just tell them that they haven’t received the item and Paypal will simply refund their money.    That may be fine if they hadn’t received the item, but it leaves to door open to dishonest buyers.

I totally agree with your comments regarding PayPal and the level of dishonest people who seem to populate the leading auction site.
I know the saying of “buyer beware” can sometimes apply to everyday life but on fleabay it now looks to be the norm.

Sometimes I wonder at the morals of the 21st century where “I’m alright Jack” seems to be the prefered stance.

I have just put my miniature iron barque EARL GRANVILLE on it for a week.

I have had to limit it to UK only because it is impossible to get insured transport World-Wide at a reasonable premium.     Even UK it is pretty expensive.
Don’t suppose it will sell, but at the moment, am not too pushed for space.     This is probably a problem with most model shipbuilders – would like to keep them all, but space doesn’t permit!
