Tom. Was not aware of that. Interesting, and may be why I have always thought that (for instance) e-boats and whatnot were woefully under ruddered! Ashley.

Ok Ashley, I will leave the lead alone.

Tom, thanks for that. The rudder does look a bit on the big side. I’ll take a photo later.

Don’t know, what do you think ? big but I wouldn’t say excessive. I didn’t quite catch the full diameter of the prop in the photo but it’s a 45mm prop and a 65 mm rudder, with a couple of mill at the top for clearance.

It turns easily with some speed on but the turns are much wider at slow speed, maybe that’s normal for the shape. Including the battery it weighs in at 660grams ( 1lb 7oz) so is a lot lighter than the original at 1100 grams (2 ½ lb) thanks to the brushless motor and LiPo battery, not my building skills. So probably I just need to be a bit more cautious. It does warn you in the build article to be fair.

Nev. No I would not say that rudder was excessively big? A small skeg, a fillet filling the gap between the propshaft and hull might be useful, a lot of boats have one..again something easy to try out.

Ashley. needs someone to comment who has built something similar and possibly has had the same issues,really..

Hi The rudder, while a tad big for my taste is not excessively large. The rudder on my Waverider is 42 x 30 mm and performs ok, altho the boat is160mm wide at the stern.

I would definitely attach a strut or similar to the propshaft. A collision with a rock or submerged branch could bend the stern tube while damageing the prop

              cheers Tom
