The Barrel Back looks great and the varnish has developed a great shine, The traction engine boys were busy you can only just see some of the photos through the steam..

In my youth I had a Triumph Bonny…..almost bought a Goldstar (wish I had) and I had a part share in a Panther…..super bike but evil to start….the kick back once sent me right over the handlebars.

          Morning Paul

It seems most model making people had a motor bike in their previous life?

I used to love those stonking Gold Stars!……Especially with the clip ons!

Glad to have you back, Paul…………….Bob

            Hi Bob

A friend had a Triton with clipons and it went like stink.

I’m glad to be back Bob, it hasnt been a very nice weekend.

I had a friend who broke his leg starting a panther paul evil they were used to dream of the goldstar and triton  actually only got the enfield because it was in bits and the old fellow couldn’t be bothered to rebuild it so I did and much to his and my amazement it fired up 1st time such a lovely reliable bike but still leaked at the gearbox breather union like they all did

Bad news!………………..Just been informed by the club committee members that Brushless motor powered speedboats are not allowed on our waters!

                In a bit of a Tizwaz now!………….Needs a re-think?

                  Why Bob?
What have the committee got against brushless motors or is this another knee jerk reaction?

                    Hello Paul

Since that crackpot, I`ve previously referred to,  visited the club a few years ago with his superfast screaming projectile…….scaring the wildlife and completely destroying a paddleboat in the process……the experience has not been forgotten!……..He got his marching orders!

There are two members in the club who do use brushless motors, but have to use low power Ni Cad batteries

Having seen the real high speed stuff at Bury……..I`m not really surprised at the decision…..They shift at breathtaking speed!……..and with these Li Po batteries…..they can outlast the Ni Cads easily

Anyway, I shall carry on the build, leaving the motor decision till later…….I may join the Bury club to get round the problem

Is it just the club or have the water owners also banned these motors?

The water owners are Stockport Corporation, but I don`t wish to argue about it.

The best trouble free option is simply to join the Bury club……..They are a good crowd of modellers……well worth a visit!

I took my Slo Mo to Bury last sunday and it attracted all the experts……some of them represent Great Britain on the Continent!

One chap who took an interest in my model is sponsored by a leading German brushless motor manufacturer………Last year he consumed batteries to the tune of £1000.00!!!!!!!!………………You may know him?

I`m a bit out of my depth here!……………….Bob

This is just more “Nanny State” rules.

Its a shame that you cant enjoy your hobby because a bunch of pencil necks decide that they don’t like brushless motors.
If it were me I would resign from the club and continue to sail on the water (with brushless speedboats)
The ban has been decided upon just because of some mindless fool who had no regard for other people……… but does this make you a mindless fool?

It really gets me mad when groups of elected people decide that the general public should be treated like children just because they can’t face dealing with the real problem.

In the case of your club it would be easy for members who have brushless powered models to take out insurance against 3rd party damage and to agree to a speed limit.
Or is this just to hard to do?

Shame on the weak minded fools who just get elected for the status.

I`ve got no problem at the moment……one of our speedy boyz at EMBC is slowly working on the same subject….he runs the Club 500 group and is hoping the rules will get relaxed shortly, to allow small craft with these hot motors to operate on the lake……..I`ll just stand back and see what develops

To right I am annoyed…..I always thought that people who are elected into positions such as committees were supposed to look after the members not throw spanners into the works.

Its unfortunate  there seems to be this divide between fast boaters and slow to moderate boaters. Does it stem from the usage of a water?? ie the fast boats use all the lake and are reckless with it or wot? One would not imagine Bobs carefully handcrafted labour intensive and expensive monster, driven by careful experienced owner boat falls in the same class as a club 500 boat simply because it has a brushless motor?

Pah,   the nearest model boat club, wot I wont name, has a really odd membership…once a year  they have a display in Bushy park, tables and awnings and everything….but do any of the members come over and marvel at the usual Sunday morning crew? do they get their boats out for a good THRASHING (slowly, of course).other Sunday persons have remarked on this. Where`s the enthusiasm? Does it drain out of club  members after a while…does too much structure affect the soul???

I totally agree with Paul here. Simply because one user of brushless motors is reckless does not provide sufficient grounds for a blanket ban on the devices. Makes one wonder if the ban on ic power was simply on enviromental grounds, or was that simply an exscuse to ban the generally quicker boats. on the subject of insurance doesn’t membership of the national model boat association provide that level of insurance, It certainly does in both the model flying and model car racing worlds. I have to admit to being a little ignorant on this subject, although I am aware that my club membership provides me with some insurance, I’m not totally aware who provides it. We at Tone Valley MBC are I know affiliated to the South West Association of Model Boat Clubs. maybe its them who provide it

                                              Oh Dear

It’s hardly a secret, more a case of simple deduction.

Before Runcorn Model Boat club get all upset and have a go at Paul he didn’t tell me anything it just wasn’t difficult to work out…..i.e. Paul cant travel very far and his favourite lake is at Runcorn, then a quick telephone call to the parks director at Vale Royal Council confirmed the assumption
……it didn’t need a rocket scientist to figure it out (forgive the pun)

I was told that the Mostyn ferry to Ireland was scrapped, due to the disturbance of wildlife along the shore!……………….Some IC, that was!

                                                    Hi Bob

John has always been very “liberal” with his views and doesn’t believe in secrets (except the official ones) I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not.

I had better get the Barrel Back finished before Heath Lake becomes a Mecca for petrol heads but the way I am going you will finish Slo Mo Shun before I get anywhere near the water.

Hi Bob And Paul I think I’ve found just the motor for for the slo mo and barrel back. it was on display at cricket st thomas this weekend. a 24cc flat 4, 4stroke petrol engine. scratch built and a snip at £8000.00  then again maybe not. But just look at the beast

All that shiny metal and truly wonderfull exhaust note
