      Hi All

After sanding the deck, I vanished with two coats that was OK.
A bit of light sanding between coats and added another coat.
Check it the next day and a lot of section on the bow the veneer had lifted !!!
      The stern section is OK.
It's the outer veneer and it's all one piece, used the same glue.
      Very disappointed!!!!

      I think I need a beer or two !!!!

Larry that is a trifle annoying. I have a few bits of veneer on the pontoon boat lifting now. It is not that bad, and if I wanted to I could do these bits as sections without too much trouble, I am keeping an eye on it.

Did you use wet`n`dry to sand, or just paper??

          Hi Ashley

Wet n Dry , same as the stern with no lifting.

I tried a small knife under the edge and lifting it up and getting glue in with the back of the knife.

It worked on part of it, but, I think I am push in SH-T up HILL !!!

I will see what it looks like tomorrow.

Well Gentleman, it's a total failure and so I am removing the whole deck planking and starting again.

Different glue and with Jarrah timber veneer main outer planking.

Will require a joint down the centre, but, this will be covered with a brass strip.

Also using the brass strip for the original engine hatch.

As I was making the initial veneer layers really really wet with the wet`n`dry I did wonder, after a few coats of varnish, that the water might be detrimental to the glue….

IF I were to do any more varnish/veneering, I think I might do three coats of varnish before wet`n`dry-ing. Perhaps this goes against established practice, but…

new planking 3.jpgnew planking 2.jpgHi Allglue

I removed all the deck planking and started with different wood.

Found a darker wood veneer (Australian Jarrah) for the outer planking, but, staying with the Blackwood and Huon pine on the inside straight planking.

Still have a bit more planking to go!!!

                    Hi Ashley

I did not have any more of the outer veneer and I did not think I could just replace and leave the rest.

I am good, but, not that good !!!!

It was easier to start again.

                      Hi All

Finally finished the deck planking, for the second time!!!

The glue destructions maximum drying 24 hours, I will wait 48 hours with the boat in the nice warm house.

I hope the wife does not see it !!!

My test piece as come up great with only three coats of spray vanish( British paints clear).

The brass strip in the middle of the dark Jarrah looks the goods!!!!

                              Hello Harry

The decking looks superb, I have always wanted to play with aussie timbers like Jarrah and Birdseye Red Mallee.

I used Jarrah, Blackwood and Huon Pine, but, would like to use Apricot as it has a beautiful grain.

Two coats of blue on the bottom so far, two more coats and a few days to harden up.

Yes Ashley the wotnot exhaust would be six out each side, but that's after I get it into the water.

It's the big day today, the has it's first run !!!

Weather fine and a little chop on the water.

CG is at 415mm from the bow(about level with the crew's shoulders).

The boat sat on the water line.

A slow cruise off and checked the rudder and forward/reverse.

                                                      All OK !!!

As the boat did not spray rails, water flying up the sides and going all over the place.

Up on the plane easily at 1/3 throttle with nice rudder control.

Zip up to 1/2 throttle, planning very nicely and only standard spray existing from about the middle on the engine hatch area of the boat.

Down to 1/3 throttle on the turns.

With the camera shots over, time to see what full throttle is like!!!

Nice and quick, over scale speed, but sits very stable on the water.

My rudder offset as spot on for the first time ever.

                                                      Very happy with the boat.

What a cracker of a day, may have a few pints tonight.

Have a few bits to add to the boat later and make some six stack side pipes for each side.
