        front screen.jpgDay 23

Made plywood template for the front windscreen.

The first windscreen was to wide, so I re-trimmed the side in and re moulded my second.

I used 2mm clear plastic which I clamped to one side of the template with plywood over the top.

Used other piece of plywood to cover the other section with only a 2mm gap to heat the required area to bend.

Heat was from a small butane torch.

If you do not use the plywood to cover the plastic the heat will discolour it.

I laid a sheet sandpaper over the forward deck to sand the bottom of the windscreen to fit the deck.

This has been my first go at making a windscreen!!!

Started on the rear windscreen and added the false transom.

Finished the rear windscreen template and made the rear windscreen.

Looks like a trip the auto shop for some 3mm silver or brown pin striping tape for the windscreen frame.

My mate used it on his MFA Spearfish windscreen and it looks OK.

Harry. Looks nice. Would the hull ply look ok if it was sanded and a Mahogany varnish was used, to disguise the staining a bit?? seems a shame to have Mahog veneer and have to paint it.

Deck looks striking. Glad to see you are putting some drivers/passengers in the boat. So many people dont and I always think a speedboat, say, a Fairey, looks incomplete without a driver. Shame your passenger doesnt seem to like the driver !!

What sort of covering and colour are you contemplating for the cushions?

                      Hi Ashley

I fixed the stains so the deck, stern and sides will be vanished.

I will have to raise the spray rail at the bow a little(3mm) to hide a few bits, but, I think it will be OK.

I think the hatch's and hull bottom will be white.

Yes RED would make it go faster, but, it would not look right.

The figures are clay because no suitable figures available in VAN DIEMANS LAND (120 to 160mm).

Probably available in England, but, the cost of getting these to Tasmania would be too costly.

It is the same for model boat plans.

Installed the spray rails today, what a pain in the butt!!

If I build the Swordsman I will modify the hull and add the spray rails into hull like a few new deep vee's I have seen.

These are like a step in the hull with an angle down.

I had an old IC power boat with this design and it was the dries boat I raced in foot high waves off shore.

My mate and I are thinking of remoulding his Spearfish and using that as a basic for a Swordsman as well.

So short a life and so many boats to build!!!!!!

                      Harry

After months of looking for crew, finally the cheap shop(Reject Shop) wrestling figures 135mm(5 and1/4 inches).

So a bit of body swapping(all but one had face masks) and the magic of Humbrol paints!!!!

Also the right size for a Swordsman!!!!

The picture with 3 crew also you can see two coats of auto clear sprayed on the hatch.

                            Day 29

                            Spray painting the hull.

Six coats of clear for top, sides and stern.

Bottoms up four coats of white.

A nice 17 degrees F and little wind.

Was going boating today, but, I wanted to get the boat painted.

No painting tomorrow(24 hours for the paint to harden) and the Bathurst 1000 car race is on TV!!!!

                            6.3Km per lap(about 33 laps and 80 litres of fuel) !!!

The best motor race in Australia!!!

Tasmania we only get the Targa Tasmania.

Finished clear coating top, sides and stern.

Start on the bottom four coats of white and a couple of clear coat.

Had a little accident with the name on the stern, rubbing out a clear coat run and touched one corner!

                              DAM !!!

                                  Hi Dave

My needlework is very poor, but, the wife's a quilting nut so no problem!

I bought her a Singer sewing machine(going buy the serial made about September 1939).

A bit of dusting, oil and repair to the original leather belt, it goes like a new one.

Yes she has electric ones too!!!

Has for black suits, they are for weddings and funerals(same thing).

Too hot for dark blue blazers(30 degrees F tomorrow).

White peaked caps turned backwards(the boat goes faster).

Also a Rolls Royce Motor(ex Spitfire) HELPS!!!

                                      Hi All

I weighted the hull today with drive line and rudder installed (2lbs 4 ozs).

Installed the motor and sat in 100 Amp ESC(2lbs 10 ozs).

Tried a few Lipo's which added about a pound and a half.

Total weight about 4lb with a 1900kv 630 watt motor!!!

                                        Hi ALL

Some clown did not drill the holes in B3 and B4 for the ESC extension cable(radio), also, the battery to ESC power extension cables!!!!

I will not do that again !!!!

Remade the windscreens(one piece) today with tinted plastic.

Not as good a plastic as my 40 year old stuff from the exchange Xbar switch covers!!!

                                          This will COST ME DEARLY!!!!!!!!!

Ready to bind transmitter to receiver and setup the ESC program.

                                          Start with a 3S 2650mah battery and 45A ESC with a 32mm x 1.4 pitch 3 blade plastic prop.

Should be quite fast, and hopefully stable with that wide rear end.

22°F is ten below freezing, mate (i.e. a balmy summer's day in Svalbard or Nome); 22°C = 67°F, much more like it!

As for 41 Amps, I hope your motor/ESC/battery wiring is short and thick! 480W is a fair chunk of power. Take it steady – you don't want to boil the whole lake away in the first ten seconds.

                                                      Hi Dave

Typing error (22C) Saturday 29C, hot, fry a concrete Nome.

I ran the wires under the false floor between B3 and B4 frames(stern cockpit) also the ESC to receiver wires.

The 2650mah 3S battery is behind B4 with the receiver and rudder servo.

                                                      The motor is a B28-57-15L 1900kv.

I played with the transmitter throttle curve setting, which was straight 0 to 100 and curved it down it the middle to get a slower cruise speed with the Esc start power at 10%.

                                                      Works great!!!

The 41 Amps is FULL LOAD with me holding the boat!!

I can change to a 60Amp ESC and a 4S battery for water boiling!!!

I have room in the engine bay for the amp meter which will read the max amps on a run.

The balance point of the boat is 10 and 1/2 inches from the stern.

I have no lake, but, stacks of open water to run in!!!!

Look at the next built and I can change the prop angle buy 5% would this improve the boat???

                                                      Harry
