Reversing servo

Has anyone used a servo reverser like sa the Turnigy one . Cant do it on the TX as its already reversewd to get it to operate the correct way as are the motors though I can change the polarity on them .I suppose perhaps you could maybe just turn the actual servo round?

Hi Bob aye they sell the turnigy one that I asked about . What I am on about is the boat was wired (not me) in a way that if the TX is at normal motors and rudders are moving the wrong way. So I have to reverse the channel switches , This means either I change the switches between using different boats Risky sooner or later you forget with potentialy serious results .or you use another TX for that boat means lugging extra TX' s about .So O would like to get the boat set up to run in normal position ,I can reverse the motor polarity its just the rudder servo I have to get round .I also believe the EC's dont always favour the TX being reversed but no sure about that

That`s not much of a problem, EP!

Just swap the motor wires over and either fit the CS rev leads or just try and remember to rev the tranny switches

If it was an aeroplane it would be a serious matter

Have you room to attach the push rod to the opposite side of the servo arm?

Or can you move the tiller arm on the rudder through 180 degrees?

Forgot to say that whatever method you choose, it’s always good practice to check everything works as it should on before you launch. I’ve seen some nasty accidents when this isn’t done.

Thanks guys for the suggestions No I cant put push rod on the opposite side as it would foul the Esc cables also would then be at about a 30 degree angle . I can turn the whole servo around but that would involve shortening the push rod not sure about that .I have ordered a reverser so will see how that works first

Please forgive me if this sounds critical or personal. Getting the basic instalation right is central to model boating. Making or modifying a pushrod is normal stuff, I made one the other night, took me 10 mins.
Maybe I’m getting old and a misery, but electronic ‘cures’ for an instalation problem seems odd.

Turning the servo round 180 degrees won't alter the direction of rotation of the disc on top.
An electronic speed controller may put out less power in one direction than it does the other. In that case you would need another reversing lead if you didn't want to use the reversing switch on the Tx.
My solution would be to make out a 'settings' card for each model e.g.
Name of Model:
Control (e.g. rudder)
Reverse switch setting i.e. N or R
Just refer to it before operating the model and, as Charles says, make sure you check the directions before launching the model.

It's cheaper than buying reversing leads.

A basic question

Are ALL servos designed to turn clockwise ( when viewed from the top) when the transmitter stick is pushed to the right.?

Can the servo motor wires be reversed to make it revolve the other way. ?

I've no idea whether or not all servos run the same way; I can't see why they should, but there's no reason why not either. With servo-reverse switches installed on all new sets it shouldn't be necessary to tamper with the servos.

Before we had such a luxury we used to reverse the rotation by swapping over the two motor wires and also swapping over the wires at each end of the feedback pot track. These days with SMT electronics it's impossible – 'cos there ain't no wires no more!

In answer to Ken's question, no, not all servos turn the same direction.

From experience with sail winch servos, the cheaper "Eurgle" winches rotate the other way, so when I replaced a Hitec winch I had to use the stick reverse tab on the Tx to get things running as wanted.

Well thanks to all for their input all is well now having fitted the servo signal reverser .
Kimosubby interesting you should pop up as it was your posting regarding Power dips that raised the point that reversing the TX is not always Liked by the Esc's. I was having that problem and seeing that possible cause logical elimination was to remove that possibility. As always more than one way to skin a cat
