        Good Day Team

Could members recommend a kit suitable for a beginner in RC model boat construction. My friend wishes to build a 1930/1940 era cargo type ship, at times referred to as a " Tramp Steamer". Many thanks

        Kind regards

        Edwin

          Hi Edwin,

You could have a look at the Deans Marine range of kits which includes several models of this type.

A word of warning though – not all of their kits are entirely suitable for the beginner. However the SS Truro has only been recently issued using the latest techniques to make the parts and should require less specialist input from the builder.

Alternatively your friend could consider building a simplified non kit fro one of Glynn Guest's plans for which copies of the accompanying constructional article are usually available. These use easily obtained materials and are very suitable for a beginner.

          Examples are:

          SS Balboa

SS Noggsund ( for which a wood constructional set of parts can be purchased)

          Hope this helps,

          Colin

Edwin. Without a doubt one of Glynn Guests plans is the thing to go for. They are very easy to build and Glynn has been producing this sort of thing for years so there will be no issues with the build.

As a beginner there could be no finer choice.

              Dear Colin and Ashley.

Thank you very much for your advice and recommendation. I have discussed the options with my friend following an examination of a number of kits on the Deans Marine website and have checked the SS Balboa and SS Noggsund. I in turn am very keen to consider building either the SS Cordene or Melanie, as my next project, providing I survive the present one.

After your advice Colin, I have completed the hull, braces and decking and approx.20% of the superstructure of the IMARA. Hopefully I will have enough energy to complete the project, this has been quite an experience.

              Kind regards

              Edwin
