      Hi All,

I have built 5 static sailing ships, 2 from kits and 3 from scratch. I have never had a go at radio control boats, but the model “Triune” in the June edition of “Model Boats” seemed like a fun project, a bit different from masts and rigging.

I have installed a type STD540 electric motor. Can you please give some suggestions as to what I need in the way of RC equipment to complete the project. As this is my first attempt at an actual sailing craft I do not want to spend a fortune on equipment in case the project goes “belly-up”. I have looked on the internet, for help, but that has confused me even more, with things like :

      2, 4 or 6 channels

      2.4Ghz ??

      Servos

Price range from £40 to £100s etc. etc.

As you can see this is absolute basic beginners requirements.

Any advice or help with definitions, recommendations, suitable articles etc. would be most gratefully received.

      Thank you in advance

      Dereck

Dereck. A simple 27Mhz set, with one servo, and an (for instance) Mtronics Viper 20 A ESc is all you need. If you were considering morte models, a 2.4Gig set would be better, or get one anyway as you will not have any channel issues with other boaters.

          A £40 set wil do.

            Ashley, thanks for your reply.

You refers to a 27Mhz set, what does this consist of ? Is it the transmitter, servo and receiver ?

You also refer to a Mtronics Viper 20 A ESc, from the internet I see this is a speed controller, is that right ?

Finally, what is a morte model, the internet is showing me girlie photos ?

            Thanks

Sorry.. typo… more not morte.. more models (boats).

Most radio sets come with one servo, transmitter and reciever, the 27 bit is the frequency. These 27m sets are the easiest to use and require no setting up. Any proper model shop will have them, or try Howes, or Cornwall model boats.

yes it is a speed controller. Others are available, see Action electronics…this site also has wiring diagrams available, as well as being very helpful to a phone call (is that right, dave???)

keep the girlie website, you may need some pictures to cut`n`paste for deck crew.

dereck. yes, tx rx and a servo.

Other ESc are indeed available, say, from Action electronics. Some say these are superior to other makes. This site also has wiring diagrams available and is very helpful to a phone call.

Typo error, more (model )boats, but keep the girly website, you may want to cut`n`paste pictures for deck crew
