You need speed controllers which will handle the maximum current these motors might take. You should consult the motor specs for this value. If you're using them for water-jets then you could get away with forward-only speed controllers, as sold for aircraft and helicopters. These are much cheaper and there is a huge range to choose from (unlike marine ones with reverse) although you may have to arrange for water-cooling or fan-cooling them. Harry Smith would advise you to use car ESCs with integral cooling fans – he always uses these.

The LiPo which will give you the longest running time is the largest capacity you can obtain e.g. 6000maH. I would recommend Component-Shop as a reliable UK supplier; if you buy direct from the Far East there is frequently no comeback should the batteries prove either faulty or not as described (it happens a lot).

You will of course need a speed controller for each motor, not just one (thought I would mention that). Ashley

              Hello Ashley

When you were a little boy did your parents ever advise you against putting your fingers into electrical sockets or the danger of playing with fire?

Upgrade these warnings to pulling faces at Kim Jong Un, poking Donald Trump with a sharp stick or correcting DM

Paul. I was certainly NOT correcting DM. He talked about speed controllers in general and probably assumed that Josh would be aware of the need for two ESC`s, but I thought I would just reiterate the point.

After all, ME, correct DM???? Never!! cool

Trying to out think our guru reminds me of the Fred and the Dragon story, Fred was Georges younger brother and his meeting with the dragon didn't turn out so well.

Its a good job that DM has a sense of humour

                        Hi Josh

Topics are found in sweet shops (remember them) it took me ages to realise what DM stood for and for a long time I thought it was a vulgar or derogatory term aimed at some poor old duffer.

Colin soon brings us into line if we stray to far off the subject, we get a verbal warning and if we ignore it he sends one of his 'assistants' round.

Ashley is the only one who has seen these assistants and lived to tell the tale, it was a big event at Bushy Park that Colin was opening when Ashley met them.

Four Amazonian ladies carried Colin aloft in a gilded throne whilst the fifth remained with the Bentley, no spectators could get anywhere near Colin during his progress, which upset all of the adoring fans as hundreds had turned out just to get a glimpse of his magnificence.

It is said that a thousand red roses were used just for the petals that were strewn over the red carpet and that the blood from ten thousand swans was used to make the lake red just to match the carpet.

                        Paul

                        off subject?

I think you need to take your medication Paul….

Go with Dave's advice Josh – he knows what he is talking about.

Paul. Ah yes, I remember that day

PS You still need one ESC per motor!!

                            Ashley

PPS…if using aircraft style ESC, buy a program card as well so you can set them up easily.
