How can I transfer my plans onto the sheets on plastic so i can cut them out.

I am new to this and only 14

Finlay,

if your plans are on a computer, adjust them to the actual size of your model and print them onto clean white paper, several sheets as required. Print in black, and use a quick print mode to save on ink, and get a narrow line.

Then I would use a "Prit stick" for photograph sticking, and stick the paper onto the sheet of plastic. If needs be, cut the printed sheet and adjust the cut outs to best use your plastic. Then carefully cut through the line on the paper to the plastic. The photo "Prit stick" glue usually allows you to peel the paper off without it leaving bits behind.

Note: cutting plastic – just make a careful cut run, then bend the plastic back and forth gently to break along the cut mark, and give a nice square edge for gluing.

If you can, you could try copying the entire plan or if that is out try and copy the parts you need bit by bit. I know it can be expensive to copy in the larger size. The other way is to use Tracing paper. Tack the plan down on a flat surface, with masking tape I each corner then tack the tracing paper over the top and trace out the shapes. Hope that helps some.

The old school, pre modern technology way would be to put carbon paper between the back of the plan and the sheet then trace over the plan lines*. Or scrub the back of the plan with soft pencil, lay the plan over the sheet, then trace. Both these will put line on the sheet. Equally old time, use greaseproof kitchen paper to trace the elements from the plan, as Wraith Leader suggests, then use Kimosubby's prit method with the tracing.

*Making sure that the carbon paper is facing the right way. Best to not ask about that…

Do you have a scanner at home or does your local shop have a photocopier? copy the drawing in A4 size chunks and then cut and stick the bits together. From this you can make paper templates.

Another sticking method is to use spray mount. Glue in a tin, if you can still get it.
