photos on the web

Hi all lve been looking at photos on the web on the boat lm building and l came across my photos out of my gallery on these pages ! was l supposed to tick a box or can someone tell me how these privat photos could of got shared. thanks. Mark

As far as I am aware there is not an option to make photos on this site Private for the individual, there may be for the Admin team but it would probably have to be all or nothing in which case there would be nothing for visitors to see.

Other option would be to put a Water Margin on them saying copyright etc.

There isn't the option, but photos uploaded are supposed to be used for viewing or for private purposes only, not taken and used elsewhere. That's in the T's & C's.

Mark69 has not said where the pictures were found, Were they on someone elses site or were they in Google Images ?. If Google Images then no one puts them there they are found simply by name, search bots and other type of bots. If on someones site maybe an email asking them to remove them might be in order.

Unfortunately it is the way of the web, you could lock down a picture as tightly as you wanted but if on public view anybody can get a copy of that image, best thing to do is make the image as low res as possible , say 80kb which would be of no use to any one trying to enlarge it for there own use but fine for the forum, however I personley feel that defeats the purpose of posting pictures on a Model Boats Forum which to me is about sharing..

As re T & C's on the web there only words,.. You are not supposed to Download VIdeos from Utube but you can..

It would be a shame if you did not share your build pictures , but then that is your choice..

Hi “the long build ” l googled the name of the yacht lm building and a pic of my hull plug came up but the photo is not named a such so how would it turn up on google as the only clue to what it is , is the name of the thread l will carry on putting pic on but lm going to.start another thread using another title. .. I have just googled a boat I am / was / still am rebuilding, "Bobby" and that amongst many other images was brought up , the image itself is still a numbered jpeg but the Thread title has been use, but referes straight back to the original site..

Without knowing the actual search details it is hard to check what is happening but Google will see any photos or posts uploaded to this website as the material is effectively in the public domain as is the case with almost any other Forum – after all, that is the way that people find things on the Internet.

I find it very narrow minded that you need to keep photos private unless you are making a living out of taking and commercially selling such images……which, when model making and posting on a thread, you are not.

I post many photos on many sites and even on here as an album, because I think it might be of use for someone else in making a similar model………….and like most other modellers, I have absolutely no objection to them taking my photos and putting into their folders…………most modellers probably feel the same.

To be blunt……..if you are going to be a "closet king" where you don't want to share your photos with anyone other than on one site………..you will have a very hard time keeping them anywhere near private.

I actually myself find it nice now and then to troll through google just to see how many of my photo's do find themselves in other domains…………does the ego a world of good.

Agree with Neil on this one. Nice to see pictures of your own boat elsewhere, no objections to that at all.

I totally agree with Neil, I thought posting your pix's was what it's all about and he's also right about the ego trip.

If you write a Blog, any pix's on there go into a Picasa album or Photobucket album and are out there for evermore and for anyone to copy,Great.

I'm an Eddie Stobart spotter and the pix's you put on their website are for all to see and you sign that they can use any of your pix's in their website, I've put in loads.

It's all about sharing isn't it.
