If you are going to paint over all those planks, and slap filler over them…cant you use ply or something ?? Is there an alternative to using plain strips of wood???  

How about dragging P_O_F into the 20th century, or even 21st….and using acrylic, for the frame and "planks" . it glues wonderfully, takes filler, sands and is flexible…even more so with heat.Not suggesting its used for "nelson" type ships of course, but for something else?? as a discussion point….(I used pine for my one and only "plank-on-frame" job… see my gallery!  Ashley

You just go and whip yourself with nettles for suggesting ………acrylics????….ply???/…or something?

There will be some filler………………the hull will be sanded true and then covered with card plating with a few trillion rivets showing…………….what could be better than that?……….and plenty of rust of course

And don`t forget………………..the frame will be  completely removed shortly!
