Despite the best advice from my father prior to joining the army “never volunteer lad” I have talked myself into organising a reggata day in sept 2010 this will be a new event in our clubs calendar on a lake that while new to the club is familiar to me as are the members of the volunteer group that look after the lakes. in fact it was while trialing a new model that their chairman suggested it would be good if our club and themselves could collaberate on family day by the lakes.

So here’s the situation I and the volunteer group have good experience in running charity events and I and myclubmates know a little about reggata’s however I thought you lot out there may have some ideas that we haven’t thought of. So any fun ideas for a reggata day on a smallish lake please feel free

You may need special public event insurance cover?

thanks for the promt responses chaps. 1st I’m from Wellington Andy just outside Taunton somerset. Basically Colin, the initial idea is to have a fun day no serious competition just something thats A, fun and B interesting for the general public. The event insurance issue has been addressed Bob. We are planning on inviting several charity organisations to attend with stalls and with a little luck a trader or two from the model fraternity. most of that side of things will be sorted by the volunteer group my main responsibility will be organising some fun events on the water. one thing we will have on the smaller of the two ponds is our clubs “av-a-go boats, these are smallish tugs that one of our club members has built that are present at most public sailings and for the princely sum of 50p members of the public can try their hand at sailing them. this will leave us nearly 3/4 acre of water on which to let our club, and any visiting clubs, loose. obviously frequency control issues will be addressed with the usuall pegboard and we have space for several largeish gazeebo’s for modellers to use to display any boat not on the water. Advertising will be mostly local posters and a general invite to clubs in the area through the SWAMBC web site and maybe something on here. no doubt Colin Bishop will advise on that.

Me too Andy, Yep it’s on the list Bob as is the mandatory bacon butty and burger stall. We’ve got a lad with a catering trailer coming for that hopefully
