I recently bought a Graupner balled raced prop shaft

        One of these http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/ball_raced_prop_shafts.html

But do I oil it through the hole or have to grease it?

Joseph. I dont think that you would be able to shove grease in, or at least, it would clog up the shaft good and proper and starin your motor, grease generally can only be pumped in via a grease nipple, or it will go everywhere… if you use one of those pointy ends.

SO oil I would think. No idea what viscosity. Any oil that is NOT specifically made to use in water will emulsify anyway. Does the vendor give any advice on this?

I am not a fan of oiling shafts. Others are… there is no consensus here. I prefer nylon bearings, as these are watercooled and water lubricated, cheap to maintain and pollution free.

Grease would certainly induce drag on the shaft and cause your motor to work harder.

A little light oil on the bearings before each session would not go amiss.

As Ashley has pointed out does the shaft maker give any advise?

Nothing was on the packaging and didnt come with any guide or anything to suggest what to do to lubricate it

Also cant find anything on the Graupner website…So guess I'm stuck unless someone sees this post with experience with the type of prop shaft, lol

I'll just go with what you guys suggest for now, just giving light oil to the barrings before every use

This link might help **LINK** as Ashley says there is a wide view on lubrication from truck grease to silicon oil and fresh air, all I can say is use a water friendly substance as there is nothing more embarrassing than having a huge oil slick spreading out in your wake.
