Hi. I’m new here and currently after some advice for my first build (almost first build… I recently sold a IOM RC Tony Abel yacht – although I only made up the sails and rigging).

I’ve been told that Model Slipway boats are the bees knees – particularly for a first build. I’d be interested in views and suggestions.

I should add that I am particularly smitten with the Fairey Huntsman.

       Thanks

        Hi Matt

I’ve only been a model boat builder since 2006 and after completing a Robbe kit “Comtessa” yacht thought I would like to do a Model Slipway kit so it was on to their website http://www.modelslipway.com/ And the first boat that struck me was the “Wyeforce Tug” . Not having done a boat with motors in before I was a bit apprehensive as it was a twin motor job as well. So I got in touch with Lawrie (the Boss) and made an appointment to visit the workshop and he was very very helpful and I came away with a Kit. with the very good instruction book and sets of plans I had no trouble with this kit what so ever. I have since bought and made the 10 hatch Coaster (with 6 different decks not supplied )and nearly finished the “Aziz” rig supply ship (see my Galley album.) and the galley on the Slipway website for mine and others builders efforts from all over the world.

Any problems just phone Lawrie and he will sort you out !!

My wife sails the “Wyeforce” 3 or 4 times a week and loves it , this picture taken by my friend Bob the Builder who’s boat is on the front of the MB magazine this month (December)

And join a local club and you will not be short of help for those awkward bits you may come across or not understand

        Hope this helps

Had’nt noticed the old camper , sorry to have brought back old memories but wait until the spring when you get out in the new one, you will forget the old one then.

Hmmm… like the look of that tug. Looks impressive, particularly the angle of the shot creating the illusion of being full size.

                 Hi Matt

As I said earlier Matt try to join a club near you, as I did and get to meet people like Bob (above) who will school you in boat building and if you wish photography like this shot with which Bob won the clubs photo competition this year.

I try to go to as many shows as I can in the year as its surprising how many tips you can pick up just talking to people there . (and don’t forget the bargain ) as most traders do a bit of discount there!.

Ps which part of the country do you live ??

Now we know where you are the guys round Kent will soon let you know where they are.

I’m in Manchester and belong to a Club in Etherow Country Park in Compstall nr Stockport ,we have about 130 members but only about 20% sail thats why its got Puzzled under my picture.we can sail 365 days a year and have our own rescue boat .

We are on very good terms with all the Wardens and we help each other out during the year, and we lease a clubhouse belonging to the Yacht Club though they have their own bigger lake, which we can use in the week but get some funny looks from the fishermen, can’t blame them though as they pay a lot more for there fishing rights than we pay.
