      Hi All
Would like to thank you all for the great posts here. I'm new to the place and just started building model ship, liked the idea very much and plan to spend more time in the new hobby.
Have been to many handmade crafts before, but never constructed a model boat before.
I've completed my first model boat and here are some shots. Hope you like them and if you have any advice or free plans link, I'll be grateful.
Ps. please bear my "poor" photographing ( not a perfect photographer embarrassed)

      Regards

Welcome to the Forum Mohd. That's an interesting looking boat. Can you give us a bit more information about the original ship and how you came to build a model of it?

          Colin

            Hello Colin

Thanks a lot for your nice words, actually it is built from some model sailboat photos I collected , precisely "America yacht" , I read a couple of articles about model ships construction techniques, some tips and tricks, and started right away. It took me a month to complete the whole work. The only thing that annoys me is that we don't have ship models hobby shops here and i can't find the rigging stuff , and had to do my best to imitate those small part and use some small materials like pins and hook nails to give the required effect.

What i plan to do next is constructing the same model again , but this time using a plan i just got from the internet – a .pdf file of a proper scale , I think it will be much easier to follow a professional plan, and will help producing a more accurate model, do you agree ?

            thank you again

Mohd. It depends on how accurate a model you want? if modelling a particular vessel then accuracy is the thing, if just simply making a model "similar to" then proffessional plans are not required.

As to using bits and bobs for the rigging… thats what everyone does! haberdashery shops are a great source of small hooks and fittings, yarn and twine/scale rope, fishing tackle shops do a great line in swivels and fine stainless steel rigging… and so on.

I used .177 air rifle pellets with the tops filed flat as capstans on my Titanic, they looks just the part, as they have that fluting on the side. You would struggle to make something that small.

Ashley (knows a thing or two about alternative materials!!)

Thanks Ashley for the great advice, great help indeed and you are right about professional plans.

i thought i need a plan to maintain the proper dimensions of the model, the hight vs the length , the waterline and so on , and wow you really know much about alternative materials Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page..

                Thank you again

                Mohd
