There are three model boat clubs in your area,  at  Peterborough http://www.pambc.org.uk/frame.htm

 one at Cambridge Sails at Milton, and one that sailes at Woodgreen,

Unless you are very conversant with radio equipment, and have access to the right test equipment converting 35MHz (aircraft band) to 40MHz (surface band) is a definite No NO

hi telstar thanks for the info peterborough & milton are about 25 miles away,  woodgreen is quite local i will go there today and see whats what,will keep you informed how i get on, i have been in touch with howes model shop and they told me the  and they said the same thing about the r/c, guess i’ll be paying out for a 40mhz  thanks again bob

Hi

I have a couple of motor boats and quite fancy a sailing dinghy or small yacht. They all seem to be very large, do you know of any no longer than 12" to 18" that I can build. I’m after something simple and robust, no fancy detailing, if it looks like a toy then thats fine. It will get rough handling from kids so nothing too delicate or expensive.

 Any recommendations anyone?

Hi Martin    There is plans on the internet for a small Una rig called Wee Nip its a simple design and quite rugged  it can be downloaded and printedto scale

hi chris. like wise i`m new to model boat building to i`m in the middle of a build at present.i`m 42 yrs of age,so you are never to old for this kind of stuff chris,thing is i joined this network of budding builders in the hope i would get some replies,and haven`t had a sausage yet,as i`m looking for help with my build,as i wan to put in a prop shaft and don`t want to bodge it,as i want it to be water tight when i come to launching it when it`s completed,i will have some pictures of it soon,so all can see,anyway good luck with your referbishing chris,

Hi chris i got into model boating by accident as when i was on holiday one year ,some where down south,i was looking around a model shop and was asked if i would like to take part in a free prize draw and the 1st prize was a precedent perkasa kit so i took a ticket stuffed it in my pocket and thought that i’d better luck  getting a visit from the pope .A couple of days later there was a message for me at the cravan site office to call the model shop as i’d won the top prize ,much to my ,now ex,girlfriends disgust as she had put up with my plastic kits and the smell of glue and paint.But as she had destroyed a large scale Panzer i had built,i put it on top of the wardrobe for safety and she promptly dumped a heavy suitcase on top of it !!!!!.So after that i’d ben bitten by the boat bug and my ex even got me a 2 channel r/c and speed controler as way of an apology.
