Hi, i just connected one of my speedy boats after a few weeks of it laying about, and when i turned the hand control off the motor burst into life and was reving fairly high. Is this a common thing (certainly doesnt sound normal) or has something gone wrong?

Typo? When you turn the transmitter OFF the receiver is susceptible to all sorts of rogue signals which might well result in the motor running full pelt. You should always turn the transmitter ON before the receiver and turn the receiver OFF before the transmitter.
If the motor is running flat out and is uncontrolable with the transmitter and receiver both ON then you do have a problem.

Hi Dave, thanks for reply. I had the boat up and running, rudder turning properly, motor running ect,but it was when i turned the hand controller off that the motor went flat out until i either turned the hand controller back on or disconnected the li-po battery..

              HI Jon

Golden rule of RC. Transmitter on first. Boat on. Boat off. Transmitter off. Ensure all is in neutral state(motor came to complete stop) before switching the boat off. Only then switch your transmitter off. you dont want a runaway on the pond.

              Happy boating

For certain. Hate swimming or rowing. Think the water is much colder in the U. K. than in South Africa

                    Hi Jon,

not only should you remember the golden rule, but you should also be aware that some manufacturers have built into their systems a "failsafe" mode which is instigated by loss of signal at the receiver for whatever reason (transmitter turned off, or out of range, loose battery etc) which can result in the default stick mode being full one way. On an aircraft or car this would be throttle to zero, but on a boat with forward and reverse it could be full astern/ahead!!!! Not all sticks default to the center stick position.

Not all instructions make this clear, indeed some do not mention this inbuilt function, so check your set -up on the bench. Sometimes it is necessary to change settings internally on cheap sets to reset so that this does not occur, and sometimes you have to search the web to find the FULL instructions for your set in order to discover how to change the default.

I have the T4 2.4GHz sets and have had to change mode settings etc to get away from the failsafe.
