motor identification?????????

found a pair of Johnson motors but don’t know what size/spec they are – can anyone help please?

 

only thing on the rings are the numbers 39480 382851 and 39480 382921

 

they are about 27mm dia with overall length of about 56mm incl shaft

 

look too good not to use

Ian. Johnson make `fahzands of motors for every conceivable use and a fair few turn up to be used on boats. Unless someone CAN identify it by its code number, I would suggest a bit of experimentation to see what it is capable of.

 

I have a couple of J motors at home, marked “12v” but they are really puny and low revving.

 

On the other hand, motors for , say, electric drills are far too fearsome and juicy for most boat use.

 

Hook yours up to a propshaft and prop and run it in a washing up bowl of water with an ammeter on to get a feel for the power/current (or a spare boat if you dont like getting wet !

I have in my bits box a motor from a broken cordless drill, I am afraid to try it due to the size of wires deemed necessary by the manufacturer to handle the current….

 

Ashley (may try it off a 140 Amp car battery at some time)
