Ian. Johnson make `fahzands of motors for every conceivable use and a fair few turn up to be used on boats. Unless someone CAN identify it by its code number, I would suggest a bit of experimentation to see what it is capable of.
I have a couple of J motors at home, marked “12v” but they are really puny and low revving.
On the other hand, motors for , say, electric drills are far too fearsome and juicy for most boat use.
Hook yours up to a propshaft and prop and run it in a washing up bowl of water with an ammeter on to get a feel for the power/current (or a spare boat if you dont like getting wet !
