      Hi all,
I am new to RC boats and am building a shark bait dispensing RC boat that is about 1.2m long and about 0.4m wide. I am planning to dispense baits in reasonably light surf up to about 500 metres off shore. I have been given advice that perhaps the 'Graupner Speed 720BB Torque' motor would suit my needs as I am not worried about speed at all, happy for a slow and reliable way of towing the bait out. I was also thinking about using a 60mm propeller with a 'Fixed Kort Nozzle with Rudder & 60 mm Propeller'. The boat is going to end up being fairly heavy (have so far only built the mold (see below, still needs imperfections sanded out), but estimate it could weigh upwards of 20kg in total after creating the fiberglass hull and top and adding some buoyancy foam).

Is anybody able to advise if I might be way off the mark with the motor and prop choice?
The boat is intended to be something similar to this one:-
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
      Cheers!

I would oersonally go for a Speed 900 if you can get one at the moment. If you're sailing against surf you'll need all the power you can get. A Speed 900 on 12v would be far more powerful – and cheaper!

Thanks heaps for the reply Dave!

In your opinion would a 60mm prop still be ok with a Speed 900? I'm also thinking I wouldn't need any more than a 30A esc?

            Cheers.

You could start with a 3-blade 60mm prop but you may well find that you need a bigger one. Don't forget to allow for this possible extra prop size when you position the shaft and tube in the hull (to allow sufficient clearance between prop and hull). Speed 900 is not an 'ampeater' so I would suggest a 30A ESC will be more than enough.
