      Hi

I’m new to all of this but have purchased the Moonmist plans and starting to have a go at building for my grandson.

The plans show an Elmic Thrust Pak but I don’t seem to be able to get hold of one. Please can someone advise on an alternative?

      Thanks
      Dave

The Elmic Thrust Pak has not been on sale for many years. It was an integrated motor and propshaft combination. Any suitably sized electric motor, conventional propshaft and coupling will do the job just as well if not better. I’m sure somebody will be able to advise you on suitable components.

If anyone could confirm if these would be suitable it would be appreciated.

            Thankk

              Dave,

Sorry, I thought you mean’t Silver Mist (senior moment! – Mist, Fog….)

The construction of Moonmist was covered in the Model Boats Commemorative Special published last year where Glynn Guest did a complete build. He used a mild form of 5 pole 385 motor as it is important not to overpower a model like this. The Maplins one you are looking at would appear to be quite similar. Others may be able to suggest alternatives.

I think an M5 shaft would be a bit beefy for this small model, M4 would be more the norm and you can use either a plastic or brass prop to match.

It may be that you can still get hold of a copy of the Special from someone (MyHobbyStore have sold out I believe) as the article is very helpful as regards constructing the model.

Thanks for the advice. Been try to get hold of a copy of the Special with the Moon mist build in it but not found one yet.

Both Graupner and Robbe do combined motor/mount/proshaft units..

might be something similar to the thrust pack?? (sounds like something from “lost in space!”
